Just a thought after having a toyosport manifold fitted today, seems a shame to cover that lovely stainless steel in heat wrap, does it make that much difference?

Carolyn

It won't stay shiny for long.  It will turn a dark metallic grey.

Yes the wrap does make that much difference.  I bet your engine bay is now hotter than it was, as you've dispensed with the heat-shields that did a similar job.

Agreed

The flange doesn't stay shiny for long either...  Pity it wasn't done before it was installed.  It's much easier to get a good overlap and a tight wrap if it's done on the bench.

After a few weeks....without the wrap

If you have an aftermarket cat (like me) you can also wrap all the way to the cat.  Note the overlap.

Scotte and Carolyn in complete harmony. Ok so far but seems a load of subjectivity.
To wrap or not; some evidence please   s:bowdown:  s:bowdown:  .
Let's have some reality for non track environment. The short distance regular rarely warms up; left for weeks and then thrashed or polished each week and never out in the wet   s:scared: :scared: s:scared:  .
Other than appearance what is the measurable difference over what period  s:wink:  s:wink: ?
Also Carolyn, just seen the last pics and if you run nappy less north of the border in winter what's the corrosion?
P's nice shoe   s:) :) s:)  .

The engine bay did seem much hotter after fitting the toyosport manifold, and there is a lot of heat shield on the original manifold, why don't Toyosport make thier manifold with fitting bracket for the large heat shield if this is causing problems with extra heat in the engine bay ?

It causes no problems to my knowledge.
My car has a turbo and runs damn hot.
No heat shield.
No heat wrap.
No worries.

Just read an old post from 2012 on the MR2OC forum where a guy said this.....

"A word of warning, the manifold stated above has no lower fixing brackets which due to the weight of the cat plus system will result in the pipes fracturing under stress...."

Has that been remedied with the Toyosport manifold or does an additional bracket need to be sourced/fabricated?

Any update on supplies of these yet?

This is why Hamish is producing his. Basically they'll be Toyosports but with the bracket at the bottom. And this is why I shall wait for his  s:) :) s:)

so... Can you find out what grade of stainless he is using (Toyosport not brilliant). what wall thickness of tube, and the approximate price?  Cheers

What exhaust wrap did you use? I used DEI on mine and seemed pretty effective.

Frankly don't remember, but it was a premium quality one.

The heat wrap does make a big difference on the manifold, I'd recommend wrapping it with wet exhaust wrap as it allows you to get the wrap a lot tighter.

To me its one of the worst things ever. It stings, irritates, drives you nuts as nothing seems to remove it.
