17" wheels?

I have been offered a set of Multi Fit PCD100 & PCD108 Team Dynamics 17x7" wheels, Offset ET38, fitted with 205/40/17 Tyres
(I will probably change the rear tyres to 215/40/17)

My MR2 has not been lowered and is currently on Stock wheels:- Rear 16x7 Tyres 215/45/16 and Front 15x6 Tyres 185/55/15.

My questions are this....
1. will the Dynamics Fit without any modifications?
2. Will the ride height be any different?
3. will it look odd?
4. What difference would it make to the handling?
5. Is it advised to go with Wider 215/40/17 on rear?

Thanks

I think most people find 16" is really as big as you want to go on these cars. Bigger wheels adversely affect ride and handling. If you're OK with that compromise for looks, then fine, but unless you're going for a specific look, I wouldn't run 17"s personally. It will look funny (too much arch gap + big wheels = car on stilts), you'll probably need lowering springs to sit the car right, etc etc.

17s look the best I think, especially lowered. But you couldn't pay me to drive in 17s again.

Tomaky and Ardent both agree with Shnazzle.
17s look great when lowered but arent the best for ride or handling.
The cost of the tyres puts me off too.

We drove 900 miles through Scotland on the team dynamics (SP12) 17s and enjoyed every second, but the handling improved to no end when replacing them with 15/16 size team dynamics.

Personal opinion

I have to agree with that myself.
17's look cool but the handling, dynamics, braking, and acceleration all take a hit.
Not exactly comfortable either

Ours was on 17s and I hated it! The handling was turd and for some reason it was blown all over the place when it was windy. Its great now it's on 15/16s

I love your technical description of the handling Helen.

Concise and to the point.
Unlike you who would be blathering all over the place about things you dont really understand. :p

Moving back to 15s was the best thing we did on ours.  felt so much better and more comfotable... The old farmer giles thanked me for it

The other thing to remember is unsprung weight.
Some of the cheaper wheels weigh a ton.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Think the whole point of a 2 is the driving experience, so why ruin it, (no experience of 17's personally), never thought the looks was worth the trade off.

I'm a bit  late to this party
But I will echo what others have already said on my behalf.

Work with me on this for a moment.
What ever shoe size your are, go up two sizes and buy some 6" heels in that size. Go for a run and see how you get on.
That is is how the 2 felt, when she was wearing the wrong shoes.
