Hey guys, I'm interested in buying the following wheels for my '05 mr2. My car isn't lowered, and I don't plan on doing so any time soon

 m http://www.rimdirect.co.uk/CarSpecifica ... rror%20Lip m

They would be 15s in the front, 7 inch width and 38 offset, and 16s at the back, 7.5 inch width and 38 offset.

I just wanted to know what size tires would be optimal for these wheels, and to give as good a ride as possible.
I was thinking possibly 195/50-15 on the fronts and 205/45-16 on the rear?

Also, would these tire sizes be suitable?  I don't want to do any arch rolling.

Happy to be shot down by someone else who says otherwise; but I would say you want at least 215 on the rear which is what Toyota headed the car out of the factory with in the first place.  Some (including me) go 225

Happy to stay as close to the original as possible. Noticed a few others here running 215 on the rears with 16s. Ok thank you

Only other thing is I'm not sure about the weight of these wheels. Need to find out if they weigh around the same as the stock wheels

Well 215/45-R16 is standard fitment for the FL.  I wouldn't go any skinnier than that

Yes I think I'll go with 215.

Found out the wheels weigh 7.6kg each, so not too much heavier than stock. I'll buy them soon. Can't wait!

before you buy the tyres, note that the FL stock setup is 185/55/15 and 215/45/16's

lots of people use some very different sizes, but if I was going for 195's and the front, I'd definitely consider 225's at the rear, unless you actually want to make the car more tail-happy?

either way, let me know which tyres you get and how you get on with them as I'm in the market for new ones as I'd like to match tread pattern and compound all-round and I'm struggling to find any mid to high end tyre that do stock sizes....

edit: Looking at stock sizes, the only two I've found are GoodYear EfficientGrip Performance and Bridgestone Turanza ER300's.

Yokohama AD08R come in stock sizes both FL and PFL.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Best tyre I have had on a 2.
Had OEM Yokohama and Toyota T1R as well.
If it snows a lot where you live you may want to get some winter wheels and tyres.
Down here in the SE I don't feel the need only one day of proper snow last year.

Thanks for the advice - I'm busy negotiating new AD08R's all-round with the local Merityre, but regarding winter, the MR2 can stay on the drive if it is icy/snowing!

I seldom take the '2 out of Surrey/Sussex/Middlesex AND I have Dunlop WinterContacts on my Audi quattro (S-Line A6 Avant with a remapped version of the A5's s'charged V6 petrol) - that way if something else loses control and flies into me I'll have fighting chance in the 2 ton snot-wagon!

Great supercharger on those wish I could fit one in the 2.

Nice idea mate and granted it is a light V6, but you're *bleeping* mental if u try!!

Mine is in the family snotwagon:

1700kg SLine A6 Avant quattro, new 255mm P Zero's all-round (seriously "planted"!). If you turn off TC/DSC and use a heavy right root, it will break traction on all 4 wheels in almost any corner in anything other than bone-dry conditions... it doesn't even bear thinking about in a MR2! At least in the '2, you'd know what the front wheels are doing, but with a s'charged V6 & >450bhp, the answer would be "feeling the air"...

I had already priced up and was lining up dates to do the full APR "stage2" and a few extras, which was the 'charger pulley and belt change, filters, intake pipes, downpipes, something with the exhaust (mid-box removal? iirc!) and also ECU and DSG remap to match... expecting >475bhp...

I was fishing for a decent insurance quote (!) and waiting around on mutually convenient dates for a while, I had a good insurance quote just for the remap, so I figured I'd get that done while I waited - just with local guy that I trusted to do some sensible, mild fettling, just to tweak out the detuning that Audi does on them: with the S5, they bleed boost pressure early to cap it around 340bhp, so it isn't the same speed as the RS5... with the A6 TFSI, it's the same engine + drivetrain, but they do the same thing again, but bleed boost pressure even earlier so it is capped ~300bhp - so it's not on a par with a stock S6 - with the stage2+ it is faster and arguably sounds better*.

* depending if you want to count the cylinders at idle or hear the exhaust when it is being worked hard: muted turbo V8 vs high revving s'charged V6.

Basic remaps will get you anything from 350bhp-420bhp - only really at the top end of that if you believe Chris Harris's REVO remap on his one - his S4 is probably pulling 420bhp, but probably only as a heavily customised treat from REVO to a high profile car journalist.... expect something closer to 375-400bhp.

Having had the mild remap done on mine, I don't need it any faster - it had the same torque and pulled like my old V6 TDI did at lower revs anyway, so we were starting from a good point. After the remap, the torque hasn't gone up that much, but now, instead of tapering off just after 5000rpm, like my old 8v GTI Golf, it holds that *shove* through to >7000rpm and then starts blipping through the close-ratio DSG gearbox... the three kids in their booster seats on the back bench love it, the missus and the Labrador, not so much!! (joking about the Labrador - I wouldn't do that to a pooch, but it painted a better picture!)

Buying an MR2 cost the same as the engine work would have done and the insurance is a lot less.... and now I have a fun little roadster to play with!

I am planning on an absolute minimum of 280bhp from a supercharged V6 in my MR2 just need 4k to make it happen.

£400 this week already on tyres: New Yoko Advan Neova's are now on... I'll get the shine off them first before pushing it!
