Hi all
Fairly new to the roadster scene, I made an impulse purchase from Patrick (a.k.a Headcase) on a very clean and low mileage FL Silver 54plate for an upcoming road trip.

Patrick has done a sterling job on the Turbo build, so i cannot take any credit for how it looks...only how much it costs.

Well I thought I would do a quick update after picking the car up from Patrick on the weekend.
So i now have a pocket rocket running 176bhp at the wheels at 0.6 boost...Wow its fast !!   :-)
In fact, the problem is the other road users are in the way as I catches up to them soooo quickly.
Perfect for the road trip in a couple weeks to keep up with the Cayman R, E46 M3, TVR Chimera, Jag F type R

After the road trip I think I will need to sell it and buy a sensible family car with 4 seats.  The question is, if I will need to sell both Mk3 and my Mk1 to buy one decent all round sports/family car or buy a 6k family wagon and keep the Mk1. That's a dilemma for later, back to the car.

What I had wish I had known before the build :
After spending 2.5x my budget I had to draw the line somewhere !  I decided on all new parts as I didn't want to sacrifice the build quality and reliability.
I'm well over budget because I couldn't stop myself upgrading it with extra bits and pieces. It's the first modified car Ive had and you just get carried away with buying loads of parts for it.  Individually they don't seem that expensive but after you add it all together, you think WTF just happened !!
You know whats it like, you set yourself a budget when looking for a car at 5k and then before you know it ...you've spent 10k.  You convince yourself that the msport and s line version are worth paying extra for, then you convince yourself that if you go for a few years newer then you can get the newer shape and then its better to get the sat nav version, even though I use Waze everywhere...and on it one it goes.

I got some great advice from Scottie when building the Turbo.  I wanted "Fast, Releiable, Cheap".
He said you only ever get two of those out of the three ....And he was right !!
Fast and Reliable don't come cheap

What I like :
I love the low down torque coming in at 3,000rpms, the whooshing turbo sound and great handling that comes with the Mk3, its just so responsive.
Its like a TTE copy cat. My current set up is easily changeable to a more spine tingling 220bhp with no other mods, just a quick hour on a rolling road for a new map.

Future upgrades
The only thing left I would upgrade if keeping it is the ECU, Changing piggy back to a stand alone. Currently Det3 controls the fuelling and the Toyota ECU controls the idle, so there is some rev hunting for a few seconds when at standstill while the ECUs work it out. Patrick thinks we can reduce this with a few tweaks.

For Now, i've just got to get used to the power and wait for the Evo triangle road trip now so i can unleash it on the Welsh twisties  :D

Pictures speak a thousand words...enjoy

You'll have some fun with that!
Love the turbo noise in the RR clip, wish it wasn't so wet as watching that makes me want to take mine out now.

Sell the MK1
You'll get more money for that than you will a roadster.
Should get your money back on the turbo if you sell it as a kit.
Would be surprised if you could sell it all together for what you paid.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Love driving the mark 1 and the amount of people that stop and do a double take its so funny. It's always a conversation piece when we have deliveries and I have the left the mk1 on the drive, everyone comments on how they remember the mk1 when they were growing up. Plus it's in amazing condition and has also had the headcase magic.

I've kept all the original parts to convert the roadster back after the road trip and sell on the turbo kit. But it's easier for me to sell the car and let the new owner do that rather than drive another 5 hour round trip to get Patrick to do the swap again.

Dilemma for later ...as I would have to research past prices of both options.

I need to enjoy it first !

A light right foot and a turbo mk3 just doesn't sound right. Put some effort into it

Finally just got back from my Wales road trip and thought I would share some pictures.

The drive was amazing, roads were sweeping left, right, up, down and we were so lucky with the weather.

Traffic was also very light on the Friday and Saturday morning as everyone was becoming engrossed in the royal wedding, except us petrol heads.

I would highly recommend Wales for a driving holiday, no need to go to abroad as we have some of the best roads in the world on our doorstep.

Now I need to sell the car and buy something sensible [emoji22]

Looks like a good time was had by all, keep the car as a toy and buy a sensible car too, you will never get your money back by selling I am afraid to say.

I'll be able to live with a small loss and put it down as a great experience... otherwise you may be right.

Will try the usual forums, eBay, gumtree. Need to figure out facebook

Also thinking of selling the mk1 using all  funds from both to buy a Boxster

The boxster being the something sensible?

[emoji3] and also sensible run around.

Having 2x MR2s and a sensible run around is too much

Nothing sensible about a boxster.
No more practical.
Not quicker.
And costs way more to run.
Makes a better noise and is a nicer place to sit though.

Well there is one boxter I'd be alright with. Ecsy's one! He's almost finished the second incarnation of it... Think the last one had like 600bhp..

Omg that is bonkers in a boxster.

I never imagined people would modify Porsches. Don't know why, just thought they kept them original because they were good to start with.  They have a base model, 'S' model and then Turbo so everyone's performance needs taken care of.
