Hi, I've had my MR2 for about a year now and I thought I'd start sharing because I like working on this car and its going to go through a lot of changes.

So far I've installed black dials, Meister R coilovers and BBS wheels with some fresh toyo tires.

There are loads of pictures on my Instagram account https://www.instagram.com/mr2turboguy/

This is were I'm at so far.

This little beauty arrived at the weekend. It matches the black dials perfectly!

I'm going to mould it to the pillar. So it will be a single gauge pod. Hopefully I'll get it to look like it came out the factory like that.

(still need to put those little pins back that keep the needles from going to below 2000RPM haha)

I'm also thinking of getting a navpod for the centre cubby with a tablet that can run Spotify, Torque (APP for viewing AFR etc), Google Maps and a track timer app.

I wish I had done that with the tablet. With the emu black you can connect via Bluetooth and then have your whole dash on there. Remove and loom that's not required and run it from there :)
Instead I made the standard 3 gauge pod...badly [emoji23]

That looks pretty good to me mate.
If mine comes out that well I'd be happy.

Did you use a texture paint before you painted the black?
What did you use to bond the plastics? I'm about to buy BONDO because thats what all the americans use in their tutorials but I don't know what the English equivalent is..

Mine is actually screwed at the front with rivets at the rear. Then I used epoxy and p38 filler. Needs lots of work. Then I'll be happy.

I didn't think of the textured paint. But on the dash I feel it matched with the dial surround so it's ok.

When I chose the paint I went with a satin black but I think Matt would match it better as it's still a tad too shiny. I think with Matt paint and then once it had a few costs of autoglym it should match nicely.

It's hard to get it looking real standard though.

I got the perfect thing for you. I got a double gauge holder for the A pillar. Full replacement. I just placed it to take pictures. It's not installed. The edges will need to be cleaned up. Although it's painted, it's not perfect.

That looks pretty good and would save me some effort but I only want one gauge. Thanks though!

I've booked the car in for July 2019, RRR is going to install the EMU BLACK, tune her up and do some dev work on a charge cooler setup. I made a list of stuff I wanna do before then:

BRAKES

  • Install new disk and pads I bought a while back and didnt fit because of seized bits.  (EBC yellow stuff pads and Racetec drilled and slotted disks)
  • Refurb calipers
  • Install braided hoses
  • Clean off all the dirt and grime on coilovers and inside wheel arch

INTERIOR

  • Make a single pillar pod and install my boost gauge
  • Buy a nav pod and install a tablet to view AFR etc

ENGINE

  • Relocate battery to the front. Maybe with a smaller battery that has a nice case to mount under plastics.
  • Install turbo kit just before I take the car to RRR, keep the wastegate wide open and crawl to cambridge.

Its best to get the charge cooler sorted before tuning, the intake temps will play a factor in how safely the car can be tuned in terms of intake air temps etc.

Don't forget all of the fueling upgrades you will also need as well as the upgraded clutch coupled with the engine sump modifications to be able to run the oil return line from the turbo as well as a boost controller and MAP sensor (guessing the EMU uses a MAP sensor rather than relying on a MAF).

With regards to the O2 sensor, look at the AEM X Gauge, its what I am running with mine, comes with the Bosch 4.9 sensor and gauge, also has a CAN out so you should be able to hook it up to the EMU if it runs on CAN to get the data fed into the ECU for logging.

shnazzle

Personally I don't see the point in an AFR gauge if it's tuned right and the correct safeties are in place. You'd be getting the data logger for the EMU anyway I assume so you can just connect a phone or tablet to the ecu to get any stats you want, if needed

@m1tch

The emu classic and black have dedicated AFR inputs for the Bosch sensor no need to waste money on external controller or gauge.
Add the Bluetooth dongle and you can view all parameters on the app on your phone or tablet.
It is fully featured Link G4 storm equivalent IMHO.

And it does use map. It has a built in 4bar sensor.

I don't know if you know about the EMU BLACK group buy going on with RRR? Hes probably done about 5 of our cars recently thats why all these guys are so clued up. Unlike me! haha So theres nothing extra I need to get right? I opted for the datalogger and lambda sensor also.. He will do the chargecooling and make sure everything is solid before tuning. Thanks for checking though, I need as much info as possible.

As to fueling I've got bigger injectors. I'm going to weld a bung into the sump for the oil return. The clutch I'm going to hold out on doing untill I know what I'm going to do next.. Build 1ZZ, 2ZZ swap, C59 JUBA, C60 JUBA, E153???   :-\  Looking for 350WHP in the end..

I think you can only get JUBU gears (or SSC gears) for the 6 speed as they are really meant for the 2zz in terms of gear ratios, they are rated to 295 ft/lbs - stock gearbox starts to let go at around 250ft/lbs. I am aiming for around 400 with my build and will be at the very limits of the JUBU gears at that point but don't plan to run it at 21psi all day so will turn it down for road use - E153 will easily hold the power but its expensive, heavy, doesn't really fit and doesn't have the best gear ratios.

Right I see the ratios are off.. How would this effect the drive? Drop in revs 2nd to 3rd? Dont realy care about 4th to 5th

What box you going for then?

Will be running the stock 6 speed (I believe is a C66), there will be a drop in revs but I don't really have much choice in upgrading the box, saying that the engine will be revving to 8k.

Been reading loads about the gearing. Interesting stuff!

Also made some progress on my gauge pod.

I used plastic weld to bond the parts together and sanded it down.

Then I used epoxy putty to fill in little holes and create smooth gradual curves.

Now I just need to give it a final sand and apply this pleather vinyl wrap. I found one that looks like a pretty good match to our interiors.

Right so I didn't finish the pillar pod yet but I got started on the turbo install. I removed most of what I need to but can't get these two damn bolts off. I stripped the one on the manifold and can't fit my breaker bar in the other...

Anyone got any tips? I have limited tools......  (:< >:)

Irwin grip nuts are what you need.... never fear a rounded nut or bolt head again!

Or, cheaper, - https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-bolt-nut-remover-set-6-pcs/6083d#_=p

I've used them on 3 jobs.....one of the best tools I've ever bought.   A guy on the f/book group bought a set & was a happy chap.
