Getting on my nerves,  is it a standard fitment or has someone fitted some sort of reversing sensor?,  late facelift model,  thank you..

No, it's standard on the face lift!  There's a way to disable I'm sure.  Someone will come along shortly to advise.
Ex owners of Chilli red facelift 52 reg called Chilli, silver 55 reg called Foxy and blue pfl W reg MR-S called Sapphire. Now 2 less!

If you search, I'm pretty sure that you can disable it but bear in mind that it is a criminal offence to interfere with something provided in the interests of health and safety. You would be exempt from this as long as you never used the car for business.
Chances of being caught? Zero ;)

Don't people just put tape over the speaker to quiet it down a bit.
I was forever slotting reverse when I first got my FL 2 so was quite glad of it.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I had an '06 & hated the damn thing. I ripped the speaker out. I did flatten the battery though by leaving lights on.....

How much time do you spend in reverse?!?

I'm quite grateful for mine as slotting back and forth between 1st and Rev when you're doing tight parallel parking, it's nice to know when the car is in reverse / not! Mine is noticeable, but if it's not hurting my ears, then it's fine - the beeping is for driver, not outside, so hardly like a truck reversing...

It is flipping annoying.
Worst sequence in the world;

Get in car turn on engine - beep beep
Plug in seat belt and drive
Drive up to park, reverse - beep beep beep
Straighten up forwards, back in reverse - beep beep beep
Stop and open door to check something - beep beep beep
Get back in, turn off engine open door - beep beep beep beep
Turn lights off that I forgot

Then there's the odd immobiliser fast beeping when you lock the car by mistake while you're in it with a door open. Or something like that. You frantically press the buttons to stop it and then the alarm goes off.

Good times.

It's louder than the bloody bin man's lorry on Thursday mornings. It's embarrassing. Rock up looking amaaazing with roof down, hair flowing, good looks blah blah then <*beep*> <*beep*>. Ruins it. the shaaame. feels like it's missing an "Oscar" plushie from Sesame street stuck to the front.

If you just want to get rid of the reverse beeping, but keep the numerous other charming little alarms these cars have, then I did this which worked perfectly, took five minutes and is reversible if you change your mind later;

current: Astral Black FL

Ex: Forest Green 2003.

On my first drive home in my MR2 I put it in reverse at traffic lights and nearly went straight back into the guy behind me. I then realised what the beeping meant!

Carolyn

I have always been very smug about my MR S not doing any of that beeping B.S.  Especially the 'you've left the key in' beep.

Then one day I noticed a fuse missing from the fuesbox inside the car.  Out of curiosity, I put a fuse in.  BEEP!!  Oh and the open door warning light showed up.

It was the fuse for the body ECU.

I took it back out.

Beats chopping the wiring.

@Carolyn what does that fuse cover? Is it just the reverse beep and door/key and dash light?

I was wondering the same but couldn't be bothered to whip out the wiring diagrams

I'm not totally sure.  But I don't miss any of what is does.

EDIT:  I put a fuse back in the slot and checked for differences.  The only things I found were door open light, key in slot and door open buzzer and reverse light.  Not even engine lid!

Mind you it IS an 01 MR S.

It certainly doesn't affect the Safety Restraint System, or ABS.

The body ECU might well do more in later (and Euro) models, but I'd be very surprised if it did any vital work.

The thing to do on a later car is pull the fuse (third down on the right) and see what gives.
