Alright People ! Was looking for a bit of help with regards to TOYO T1-R's I have just bought to replace my ageing T1-R's.

My current rears are 225/40/16 and I decided to give the 225/45/16 a go, in order to see if there would be any difference in ride quality.

I took the new tyres to my garage today and he said they were to big too fit and refused to put them on. He went on the DVLA website and showed me that tyres with a 45 profile were not on the list for the Toyota MR2.

I was just wondering if anybody else has experienced that from a garage ? Any advice ? Do I try and get the supplier to swap them to the 40 profile or just go to another garage ?

Any help would be much appreciated as it seems that lots of people have had the 225/45/16 fitted. Just to note I went for the 195/50/15 tyres at the front.

Cheers

Absolutely nothing wrong with that fitment mate!
Yes they're not standard size but the stock alloys very easily accommodate 225/45 without any issues

As you say, tons of us run the 195/50 225/45 setup on the Facelifts.

Switch garages or use a mobile fitter like I do.

Also, FYI, 3 different insurance companies I've been with have also been fine with those tyre sizes

WTF!
That's just silly they fit on the wheel fine even if I do prefer OE sizes.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

surely the only problem would be if the tyres would be too fat / stretched for the wheels.... if you've got FL OEM rears (16" 7J, then you should have just directed him to this site:

https://www.toyo.co.uk/tire/pattern/proxes-t1-r

Clearly states that 225/45/16's are okay for 7J.

refusing to fit them is just weird / crazy.... I get it that they don't want people buying little pram wheels, purely 'cos they're cheaper.... but getting tyres that are 10mm wider is going to make no difference in terms of safety / roadworthiness!
