Catch Can Recommendations

Anybody got a catch can they would recommend?
Loads on eBay and Amazon.
Don't see why forge and mishimoto want so much money for theirs it's a pretty simple idea unless I'm missing something.

I've got one of the fairly standard ones but yet to fit it as I've run out of places suitable to mount it.
I watched a video on YouTube which basically says there's no massive need to spend a fortune on such as the Mishimoto but they do have a good filter system in them.

Ive got one of the below on my GT4 all be it from a different seller, its a direct copy of the Mishimoto baffled and pretty well made especially for the price, mounting is a bit flimsy but easily improved on if needed, not much capacity but you shouldnt need much if engine is good i just have one to keep intake clean.

No thats what i thought and although its small capacity its easy enough to unscrew the base to empty if needed, or undo drain screw in bottom if mounted so you can access it, mine isnt on celica as space is limited and will get a picture of it on car.

Pipework wise i had some nice sturdy black 1/2" ID fuel/oil hose left over from a previous install i was able to use on mine, fitted well onto camcover breather outlets and the barbs on tank, its it bit rigid to make routing it easy and could probably do with something a little softer but at least i know its upto the job, unlike the flimsy clear hosepipe stuff you often get with cheapy catch tank kits,  not sure what size breathers are on the Roadster though probably a bit smaller than GT4 ?

I got some 8mm internal, heat and oil resistant tubing but just bear in mind it has to open out to around 12/14mm at the intake end.
And with the standard airbox and head steady you're limited for somewhere to fit it, I'd planned to bring mine along on Sunday for a bit of a brainstorming session.

With stock airbox it is indeed a bit tricky...
I'm going for a custom bracket and where the stock box used to be. So, short pipe straight into the can, with the can lower than the outlet so that oil never sticks around in the pipe or goes back into the engine at standstill.

For stock airbox, I think your only bet really is to the right of the coolant bottle, on the other side of the frame. To the left or the engine lid locking mech

I've had a poke around the blue car....

Between the battery and the strut tower, just to the right.... need to make a bracket to mount to one of the strut bolts.

As it stands I'm looking at fabricating some form of bracket to mount it at the side of the expansion tank inside the heat shield gap.
I looked at a bracket that off the bulkhead but the can has a dipstick that fouls on the rim of the bulkhead.
All good fun.

As far as I could see, the difference is all in the internal baffling. The cheapest  ones are empty inside whilst better ones have a metal plate or wire mesh to delay things and give more time to trap the oil etc.

Mine is still vented to the air but with a further very small filter on the end. I have  emptied it once and it is certainly stopping something.

I replaced the pipework with some silicone ones off ebay.

Lots of room in the V6 engine bay for it (thats got to be the 1st time we have more space!).
I think there should be a picture on my readers ride of where I out mine?

I would always mount the catch can higher than the outlet from engine to stop it getting oil running down into it, remember you only want oil vapour ideally so having it higher is best way as vapour can rise up and in but oil residue will run back into engine should it get into breather.

The one I got has an internal baffle that you can add your own filter medium to, stainless wire or the like.
Mainly I want to prevent all my shiny, new intake from ending up the way it was when I took it apart.

Heres mine fitted on the GT4, tucked up next to strut brace and r/h strut tower as you look at it, its got a naff white logo printed on the top which i must get cleaned off  for stealth look.
