Quote from: "roger"By the way, we are fairly certain we were reading these at least a foot (30cms) closer to the exhaust than the readings in Sean's post, which would account for higher readings all round

but equally, Seans readings could have been too far away and are too low

tell you what, cant we redo the lot at JAE and bring along a ruler?

wouldn't take long

I should be at JAE on the sunday - so I could supply the dB meter for then???  s:wink:  s:wink:

marvelous, it's a plan then

106 db with AEM CAI, TRD Header, Top Secret downpipe and dual Remus.

I loved the sound but removed the TS downpipe and went back to catalyzer, it was 2 loud for normal use even at low rpm

If you have a cat (which you need for MOT), then it won't be illegal. I don't actually think there is a set limit for exhaust noise, although they were prosecuting up in Scotland a short while ago if it was a custom exhaust.

you're right Dan, there is no set limit, but each vehicle type has a known limit set by the manufacteurer. this can be used by the local law to prosecute if they beleive the noise is beyond resonable limits

SVA allow up to 103db @ 3/4 rpm, read at a metre from the exhaust at 45 degrees IIRC.  Given this is what you need to meet to make a car road legal I suspect that is the limit.  I would also say that 98db should be as loud as you want to go if you want to do any trackdays in the future and don't want to have to worry about noise.
Porsche Cayman - Curvy (almost) perfection
Juno SSE-CN - Bonkers track thing
Mercedes 190E - Das Uberbarge still going strong
