Anybody have pictures of one fitted?  And opinions of quality, noise, durability etc?
Thanks, Joe.

@Ardent has had the pleasure of one. I think he's happy with the noise, but he does have a turbo to silence it.

It's... You get what you pay for.
It's good stuff, considering the price.

It works, does what it says on the tin. Looks good.

Thanks @shnazzle, the pictures I've seen (not fitted) look okay.  I'd be okay with a subtle increase in the noise, but I think too much would just annoy me over time.

They do a few. A "normal" one and a sports one. The sports one I'd avoid. That one's loud as hell on a stock car.

The OEM catalytic converter is a decent muffler too so even a moderately muffling sports muffler should be say track day level.
The cat / decat was a shocking difference om my car.

Thanks both.  Sounds as though I'm probably best waiting, hearing a few, and deciding then.  Rather than starting an expensive experiment to find one I like. :))

There´s a ´doppler effect´ recording in Belle´s thread of her decat/no-muffler.

Nice perspective in to too as just before, a large buss passes at 100 km/h.

Everything shnazzle said.
My question to you is. Which Malian zorst are you looking/thinking of. As a few variations.

It was this one in particular https://www.malianexhausts.com/product/toyota-mr2-spyder-1-8-tte-catback-performance-stainless-steel-exhaust-system/, I don't feel the need to go as loud as possible, then I won't be able to hear all the rattles and squeaks. :))

Ardent

I have the single pipe sport version so cannot really compare on a sound front.

What I can report. And goes back to something @Call the midlife! Said. In my Malian thread.
There is stainless steel and there is stainless steel.
Not 12 months old and it is showing which end of the scale the stainless comes from.

My decat is the same vendor and still without a stain a year later but then that is without salting it.
Your reality in the northwest is that a bit of proper quality steel is essential if you expect it to stay free of stains.
I would not be bothered. You cannot see it if you don´t go looking for it.

Ardent

Sadly I don't have to go looking.
It is there, in yer face.

Replace that rusty end with a HelloKitty. WinWin I´d say. Well maybe a win more when the significant other asks ´but WHÝ!?; ´because it was rusting!´ end of.

All interesting stuff, thanks for the feedback both.  While the sunny south coast is probably less severe than Leicester, it's definitely not Malaga. :))

Less severe for steel?
I doubt it if you are anywhere near the sea.
Leicester is a long way from the coast. For the UK any way.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Spot on Scott.
Rain is not the issue, salt is.
So road salt ánd  moist/salty sea air are detrimental.

You're never more than 70miles from the sea in England.
Probably another reason why rads rot and crossmembers crumble.

You could make your own. Look at thetyrents post in the performance related section. I'm very tempted to fit one of these after i have sorted my suspension.

Love the exhaust system, one of the first things I fitted, people always commenting on how nice it sounds

Gman

Lewis wimpenny in one of the Facebook groups supply's them.

I have just changed over from the stock cat to a Malian sports cat with the same backbox - does make a difference to the tone and does increase the noise slightly and certainly flows better than the stock cat.

Smithy

The silencer i was looking at uses T304 stainless steel, i think OE is 409? does anyone know what the Milian system uses?

RE: Malian exhausts...

There's a couple of UK YouTube videos of them being fitted... the centre exit is pretty cheap and you get what you pay for... the TTE-style one looks pretty decent...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPhBsIvjfYI

This is probably the better one (video and exhaust)...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSZzeTdstzA

General feedback I've heard on them was that the build quality isn't quite there (some inconsistencies on weld finish/chrome and will require a lot of persuasive adjustment as it won't quite line up, etc) and they're a little lightweight compared to something like a TTE (a bonus for some!)... but the welds are all clean and it's not a complete liability , so overall pretty fair value for what they normally cost.
