Wot wot wot??

Leonard John Kensell Setright wrote some lovely proza on the cars.

Quote from: Joesson on March 14, 2021, 09:56So, with a member of the motor industry having those thoughts, for whatever reason, it is perhaps not too much of a stretch of the imagination that is a common conception and a factor in why the 2 is not as popular as some (of us) think it should be.

Funny how that urban myth created by anglo-saxon motoring press gets repeated over and over while the 911, Boxster, Lotus et al are not seen in this light. Ah well, tant pis. For them :-)
Same thing the ´practicality´ crap about the luggage space like a cabrio would be bought as the family car or as shopping cart. Again tant pis and to our advantage. Well, not so much over hére; neither seems to be a subject.

As to the Boxsters @1979scotte , those have no effect om Spyder prices at all over here. The Toyota reliability versus Porsche maintenance wipes any of that off the table.
Easy top down, easy handling, low maintenance, striking looks are the ingredients seeing the Spyder quite appreciated.

As for comparators, seldom mentioned is the GM/ Vauxhall offering of the VX220.
The resale cost of those seems to be high but the only car I know of was from around 15 years ago and I organised the recovery vehicle for that to get it out of a ditch that it had entered rear first and was nose high to the sky. Both occupants safe though.
So, could be considered " twitchy " or a "bit of a handful" and as for luggage space!

Also if you say its your second job you can do what you like.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Bernie, I applaud you sticking to the rules; I ended up waiting a month after putting a deposit on the Golf (Nov > Dec) before I could legally pick it up and never even got a test drive.

But judging by Facebook groups (and others), there's plenty of folk who've just been ploughing on as normal, whether that's for upgrade parts or whole cars. There's the odd comment suggesting 'oh what if someone needs a car for work' but frankly that's whataboutery at its worst and seems unlikely that every single person buying a two seater roadster in winter, has done so for essential work reasons.

And they've probably come into contact with only one other person.
Do we think that has brought the NHS to its knees? It's hardly going to a rave is it?
I've seen plenty of cops and NHS staff completely ignore social distancing rules.
The construction industry has never shut. I can't do my job and social distance it's impossible. Crikey some days when they only run 4 carriages instead of 12 on the railways we are packed in like sardines.
Give people either the benefit of the doubt or a brake.
Rant over.

I'll have to agree to disagree, other than running/walking/cycling, I've spent most of the last 12 months within a mile radius of my house. My parents (in their 60s/70s) have been to supermarkets and walking the dogs, and that's it. By the same logic you propose, there's no reason not see them under these current restrictions, but I haven't done it because we've been told to stay local and to only meet one other person at a time, for exercise.

I've re-read and checked my post and I'm making no judgement for those that have been having to go to work on construction, hospitals, infrastructure or anything else.

What I am querying is the rationale of people travelling hundreds of miles to buy a second car, or a bigger exhaust, when we've been told specifically to stay at home.
