Hardtop kit

Hi guys, I have just been offered £600 for my hardtop with storage bag and removing fitting kit from my car.
Firstly not sure what the prices are like just now, so is that a decent offer?
Secondly, can you remove the fitting kit from the car easily enough?

@chalced. A very decent offer for the buyer. Not so good for you the seller.
Prices are now considered to be " silly" but are around £1K.

PS
The fitting kit is easy to remove but you will need coloured cover plates to replace the chromed rear fixings.

Unless you really could use the money, my vote is to keep it.  It will only go up in value and will help the car's value in the future. (I think).

@Carolyn . Actually that's not bad advice. I don't really need to sell it :-)

I thought of selling mine when I saw how much they sold for (or at least the asking price) on eBay. However, a friend suggested I keep it as it's part of the value of the car. If I sell it, the car is worth £1000 less.

Jason has dug up the new price.
It was a factory option only, like airco or leather seats.
It was 1500 ps.

But does anyone actually know a person who has bought one for that kind of money? Or sold one for that matter?

IIRC I paid £250 for mine, probably six years ago. I picked up the fitting kit in separate sales, maybe another £180. I also had it painted black.  It might be the best thing since bit coin to make money with!  LOL

I don't value hardtops they are pointless to ME personally.

How many are left?
Hoe many are actually for sale?
How many people want one?
If they were worth 1500 quid new can't see why they're not worth 1k now.
For example I sold a very good condition tte exhaust for £400 they're only 6 or 7 hundred quid new .

In desperation just buy a car with the hardtop and then sell the car - works out cheaper!

I put mine (Sable in excellent nick) on Ebay auction back in October and achieved £890.

I agree, but who is buying these at such daft prices?? Anyone on here ?
Personally I can't see the point of a hardtop. Why buy a convertable that now must have a hard roof? It doesn't make sense to me. If I want a hard roof for some bazaar reason I will get in the fiesta or Yaris. Soft tops are fine and I can't see a reason to change my opinion.

It drives quite differently. Although not much, it doés add structural stiffness and a very assuring solid feeling to the car.
The rear window offers an added dimension of rear/side view.
And it is more secure when parked.

Also it is súch a doddle to put it on.
THÁT is the crux of a hart top over a permanent roof: It is a 5 minute option. The best of two worlds, which ever so rarely happens.
It is álmost tempting to take the softtop out and go tonneau / hard top over the year.

Even over here with 300 days of sun per year I think it a thing to have handy.
If there is a week or so of rain in the forecast I put it on.

To top it off it looks véry good. Way better than the soft top imo.

And as to the ´value´; it was 1500 ps new and a factory option only.  I can see them going over new price soon enough as the car itself gets scarcer, more appreciated; goes up in price. It really ís a practical value added:
Now do some calculations.
You can keep the hard top when swapping to a different/better car. Put a neutral wrap on it and it will suit any colour.
Say you keep it for 10 years.
Say in the UK you use it 10 weeks/year, so 100 weeks.
How much value would it add? I´d pay a tenner per week of use, making 1k quid added value plús the thing will probably fetch more than you paid for it.
Even counting interest on the outlay it is a good deal.
That is not counting less wear on the soft top even.

Quite right - it's all about having options as far as I'm concerned.

I don't have a garage or car port, so the hard top is handy to protect the soft top from the harsher weather during the winter when I'm not using it. Usually it's 6 months on, 6 months off, depending how much I drive it.

Driving with the hardtop is also much quieter inside the car.  If you drive your MR2 -perhaps daily- throughout the winter when there is little to no chance of enjoying top down "B" road blasts you might really enjoy a hardtop.

Also all the snow, ice and road dirt frozen onto the top (mohair with fitting now £600?) is unlikely to enhance its condition or useful life.

I'd never part with mine.
