Just out of interest, I understand that these are rapidly increasing in price - what's the going rate at moment? 1k depending on condition?
Ex owners of Chilli red facelift 52 reg called Chilli, silver 55 reg called Foxy and blue pfl W reg MR-S called Sapphire. Now 2 less!

I saw like different ads asking for 1k the last 2 weeks. I am happy that you helped me to get mine, now it would be close to impossible.

Chilli Girl

Just a shame it got damaged on one corner! :(

Over here it has gone from sevral being offered on ad sites for mónths at 500€ to being wanted (without a shimmer of a hope) for 750 in two years.

Currently the only realistuc way to get one over here is to buy a car that comes with it. It is more of a sales plus than a value added in the price.

I would say £800 sale price vs £1000 advertised price at the minute

I think even with damage, if it came with the kit, someone would bite your arm off at £750.
Which is bonkers. I sold mine for £450 a couple of years back.

@s12vea I've seen several change hands for over £900 on FB over the Winter. Particularly those that aren't silver.

ISTR one of the traders mentioned that they let a sable one auction and it went to over £1200. Like this blue one

Some of the red ones have gone for over £800 without fitting kit too. Other people have strangely not bothered researching and put them up for £500 BIN with kit and unsurprisingly they sold in minutes. I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd invest in a black one (for instance) if it came up with fitting kit for £500.

That stand and cover are worth £150. If you deduct that, it's around £1000.

I guess if it's the right colour and local I would pay more as well.
Genuinely nice to see some of the parts demanding strong money. Only wish I knew before hand and kept a few in stock lol

It pains me that I got rid of mine for £450 as judging by others that had gone, I was far too honest in my description (had one small scratch running along the top).  The buyer (who was looking to swap colour) promptly put their silver one up for £500.

Think it was about 4 years ago in fairness, it seems the Americans are buying them up and at those kind of base prices, presumably whoever was sending them across the pond previously was still making good money.  Perhaps not in the current climate though, given all the issues with international shipping and freight.

Surely no one is actually paying those £1000 plus prices.

I wouldn't but I have bought 2 dogs in the last 2 months at highly inflated lockdown prices.
Every year there are less hardtops so the prices have to climb.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

By Jove, you are mentionning soemthing there; idíotic those current (puppy) dog prices!!

The small dogs are going for silly money here. Quite a few also to keep the confined kids happy. And they sell at record speed too.

Tortoises on the other hand are slower moving.

I saw that, just crazy! I guess the new owner is on the forum as per one of his delivery network posts. Always hard to see the value at £1200 for me but at if the buyer is happy to pay that much fair play.
Just wish I had a garage full of hardtop snow when they were only a few hundred quid

More ppl sending them to US(even some in batches) for sweet money. Saw a post of a guy sending 4 at a time, there is a demand - the price will go up.

Hi, I just bought one off ebay and if you take out the fitting kit, say £250 for that then the top was £1k. It was a bit of a shock as to how much they are now...

Yep that was probably me , obviously would have liked to have got it for less, but I guess I wasnt the only one willing to push the boat out to get one, happy to have got a decent one though.

I guess if you were happy to pay that price it's a win!
They do look nice with the hardtop on and now you have the best of both

It always seemed plausible that as car numbers went down and the ratio of hard tops to cars improved, they may drop in price.

But if they're being shipped abroad never to be seen again..

I genuinely think at this late stage of the MR2's life, even if you pay 'over the odds', you won't lose much if you sell it separate to the car in the future.
