Not planning on buying Superblue but got an insurance quote based on it having a custom exhaust and supercharger and a value of 5k.

Came out just under 600, which oddly surprised me as that is more than a group 50 car I have worth significantly more which I pay under 500 for.

Now I did use moneysupermarket and I know there are specialist out there that are more competitive, but still did seem a tad high.

Sounds about right for a custom modified car to me. Especially if you have no previous experience of modified or mid engine cars.

Can't remember what I paid last time on the supercharged V6 around 500 quid maybe and that's a car I've owned for years through several sets of mods not one I've just bought.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I had a gt3000 that I put a blueflame exhaust, bigger brakes and a complete ECU replacement which put out around 500bhp.

Was with admiral at the time (about 12 years ago) insure it but would not cover brakes or exhaust if crashed and only paid extra 100 or so, plus slightly higher excess.

I'm with Lancaster.  I still have a relevant claim, & a speeding fine, & my premium is in the £200's. I was told that if I ever get round to putting the turbo on it won't add more than 15%.

My partner has a 2zz supercharged....similar claim history as me & she's £300 approx. Different broker.

There is a percentage horsepower increase that some companies use, & if you go above that, premiums start to rocket. If I remember correctly 70bhp increase was the figure.  Some of the companies WANT you to be a club member.

Admiral would not touch that car today imho.

Also guys you both owned these cars or had experience of them before mods. I would expect a substantial discount in year 2.

If you increased power by 50% or more they really go to town on you.
There was a lot of humming and harring last time I insured mine in the circa 280-300 bhp bracket.

I never get close to your prices.

Hi, missed this when it was originally posted

Lancaster Insurance, paying just under £300, with all of the mods declared. that was via a similar Moneysupermarket search after my previous insurer Performance Direct decided they could no longer offer me insurance(after swapping # plates!!)
