I have a Toyota's own tte.
But I would consider that more rare than unusual. So might not fit the criteria.

Get in touch with him if you fancy a run out to Norfolk in May Jason, I have tried to amend the title to rare and unusual w/out success.

We really do need to meet up. Especially given we are only a few miles apart.

As per chat on FB yesterday, I find it weird that despite being TTE branded, these weren't actually produced by Toyota, but with a partner who designed, built and fitted them for Toyota (Silverstone Performance) and only in the UK and not Europe (TTE is Toyota Team Europe)

Not that it detracts in any way - from what I gather, it's a very reliable and well fitted kit. It just seems odd that it was TTE branded. Although I suppose that's the same as the springs (which IIRC are Eibach), exhaust (Remus) and I'm guessing a third party did the ARBs?

What? TTE = Toyota Motorsport GMBH. My TTE turbo is built in Cologne, Germany as most of the cars are. Silverstone only catered for the british market.

Agreed
They did not leave the production line as a tte. And the kit was fitted after sales.
But I raise an eyebrow at the line, Toyota did not design it.
Tuv approval docs. Parts list install manual etc. All Mr T.
I doubt, anyone else could have designed and executed the piggy back ecu.
20 years down the line an no-one has cracked the standard ecu.

Aye, fair point. They were definitely behind it all.

The point I was making was more along the lines that generally, Toyota are one of the few companies that used to make their own stuff. They own Denso, Yamaha and a number of other companies that put all their stuff together.

I'm aware that these days, particularly with their sports models, they just partner up with another maker and in one case, reskin the car (much like Fiat did with Mazda)

Always found it odd that they didn't come up with their own Turbo kit and relied on a third party to put it together and manufacture.

Was it built, designed and manufactured by Toyota? I got the impression that with the Turbo kits, apart from a group of very, very rare JDM models, they weren't Toyota.

Happy to be proved wrong :)

The brochure that Bernie showed above, that TTE kit was SP.

It's not really that difference to Gazoo Racing who are now in effect TTE

The kit was made by TTE and Silverstone Performance just fitted the kit in the UK

Matt P then went on to put his take on it hence the SP kit

Call the midlife!

As I understood it the kit was developed and produced for TTE by Toyota Motorsport in Germany and shipped as a kit for dealer fitting. Whether "dealer fit" means they were all done at Silverstone isn't easy to confirm or deny, as I understood it Silverstone shipped the kits in from Germany and fitted them independently from Toyota and also did their own SP variants.
60% of the time it works everytime...

All Sp did was fit them.
TTE turbos were fully covered by Toyota warranty.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

As I say to insurance companies, just a mere optional extra. ;)

s12vea

Tte produced and shipped the kits to silverstone performance as they were the only uk authorised dealer.
The kit once installed carried the balance of the Toyota warranty.
Towards the end of the kits life silverstone performance developed own kit and it was labelled SP Turbo

by the way, TTE ARBs were made by Eibach as well. They are even willing to produce them again or at least they were when I asked them 3 years ago. Only down side was that there was a minimum quantity of 25 sets required. I tried to arrange a GB over here in the German forum, but could not reach this target. The set price was on the higher side as well...gone.

TTE / Toyota Team Europe were responsible for the design and distribution of the turbo you see in the TTE brochure.
Its not just a branding exercise they were the manufacturer. Exception to this are the suspension components like eibach arb and springs being rebranded.
It also was not for UK only.
