Toyo proxes Tr1 sizes

Just speculating on what tyres to replace mine with, although not going to happen soon, I will need to at some point. I was pleased with the Toyos I had on my previous "2".it seems that Toyo TR1s do not have an exact match for the standard rear FL size of 215/45/R16. Choice seems to be 215/40/R16 or 205/45/R16.My gut feeling is 215 width is the way to go  as the 5mm lost on wall height will hardly be noticed, any thoughts on this please?

Thanks yes I scanned that thread but didn't pick up too much on the pros and cons of width over depth when the OEM tyre spec. is unavailable. I may have missed it, but my query is more about the best way to go size wise, less so which make of tyre we should go with as it seems to me that very much depends on personal preference and how you drive.

Sounds good, are the 225s 45 or 40 sidewalls please, and where did you source them for 16 rims as I can't seem to find those sizes in TR1s?

I run Nankang NS20.  Good grip in all weather.  Sizes:  215 45 R16 rear and 195 50 R15 front.  Peole who have tried both Toyo and Nankang rate the Nankang.

That's good to know Carolyn. I've read some people advise keeping the original width stagger of 30mm (face-lift), not sure how important that is? I'm guessing a 5mm difference is minimal and wouldn't be a problem.

I wouldn't say they are quieter, but, by all accounts, less mushy.

215/195 stagger is pretty much the same as the pre-facelift set up of 205/185, and that wroks just fine.

Not tried the Nankang so cant comment

I think some people compare them to the old Toyo T1R which was by all accounts was soft walled, the TR1, as I said, I find fine, admittedly, my MR2 is for sunny summer blasts with the odd trackday, grip is excellent when warmed up and they appear to be waring well

Last year I bought 1955015 2254516 TR1 but couldn't find the rears this time.
Could only find matching sizes in yoko advan which I've just purchased.

I've struggled to find local stock of Toyo TR1s and wonder if they are being replaced? Went with Black Circles in the end, lets see if they turn up.
