I started cleaning my spare cover ready for polishing and yes I know it may add up to 10BHP and improve the MPG but they are not the reasons I am doing it, I just want a bit more bling under the bonnet :)

First job to clean the burnt oil stains from underneath, not necessary really I suppose but while its on the bench may as well.

Does a gasket fit in the coil recess arrowed ?

What is the purpose of these two "vents" ?

Yes and no.

Yes the outer recess and the plug holes.
Not the 2 arrowed rectangular bits.

They are vents I wasent expecting a gasket there, do you know the gasket part # Jason ?

edit: aaah I see the the coil recess gasket is part of the main gasket.

That part of the gasket is part of the rocker cover gasket.

Me being made of simpler stuff, just ordered the gasket specifying the VIN#.

On a side note, wasn´t there something about blue silicone gaskets? Or am I confusing a different car?!

ANd yes @TheTigerUK I wondered too about the surprisingly complex design of the vents in the splash plate.

Was def an issue with some blue coloured ones.
I got mine from Mr T. Was no more expensive than anyone else.

How far do you go ? the casting flash looks rough so I decided I may as well take it off while cleaning it up.

I now calculate that after removing the flash and therefore losing some weight I could even get extra BHP 🤔

ps: I have worked on better quality Aluminium in the past.
