Widebodykits...

I suppose this is more of a general gossip than appearance thingie...

But is it just me, or does almost every widebodykit seem a bit bulky? I mean the parts where the door meets the fenders, like these:
 m http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/upload/intake.JPG m
 m http://www.imoc.co.uk/users/upload/side%20vents.JPG m

To me those just make the kit look like something was put on the stock car in a hurry. Is it really that impossible to change the doors so it would be level with the fenders..? Shouldn't be much harder than installing some brackets between the door hinges and body..right?

Or does everyone think those look good like they are..?

Just for comparison, the TRD widebodykit:

No bulky parts and huge gaps, just sexy lines. Gotta love that.
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Is there a pic of the whole car?

Im not over keen on the second pic, the one where the bodykit is over the door handle, but it is a funny shot - best way to tell is to see one in the flesh i guess and have a good look around.

Ugh, that looks hideous.  I'm not really a fan of the GT300 look, whereby the headlights/taillights are much further away from the edges of the car, because the arches are so flared... looks wrong to me.

The pics of the whole car from Veilsides website:

They do hide the bulky parts pretty well in their adverstising, don't they?  s;) ;) s;)

Spyderchat is "full" of more pics from the whole car, but it's VERY slow right now..

Widebody kits ALWAYS look like the have been stuck on up close, basicly because they have.  Up close the VS is scarry, somepeople like it and if they do thats fine, but a VS Spyder will never be a true performance car like a Stock MR2.

Somehow it reminds me of the recent craze for bootlegs/remixes.  Some people hear two tracks skillfully blended together to make a whole new track that's greater than the sum of the parts... I tend to hear a good song with bits of another (usually annoying one) one played over the top!   s:wink:  s:wink:   (Obviously, there's some exceptions to this).
With these kits some people see an MR2 with new body parts skillfully blended in to make a new beast, greater than the component parts... I tend to see a great little car with bulky bits stuck on!   s:wink:  s:wink:
But I don't mean to knock it, it's just the different ways people see/hear things.

Owning a bulky kit I obviously like the look of flared arches and grills as per the original MR-S race car.  I have wondered why they didn't take the route of the Clio V6 and put extentions on the tops of the doors.

Does anyone have a picture of the V6 for comparison or photoshop a GT300 with door extentions.

Have you guys ever seen an F40?  Is that also ugly with the doors not level with the wide fenders?

The GT300 fenders are done like that on purpose.

I've never seen a rear shot of the VS kit - boy does it look mean!!   s:P :P s:P

I'm not a big wide arch fan myself either, but have considered extending the side scoops to make them functional and draw cold air into the engine bay.  The best ones I've seen so far follow the same shape, but just stick out further - part of a kit by C One or something I think?

Such as clearing air from the wheel wells.  In the rain it helps to clear the water out and not make it go on the tyres again.  There are other reasons such as aerodynamic efficiency as so on and so forth.

Do you really think that if they did nothing on the GT300 they would be there?   s:wink:  s:wink:

It's not ugly...and I never said Monocraft is ugly either. I said it's bulky, and yes, I think F40 is bulky as well. I'd never buy F40 for the looks (like I even had the cash  s:roll:  s:roll:  ), even if it looks better than some Corolla. But then again, F40 doesn't look like there's a lil car trapped in under fiber bars  s;) ;) s;)

I just don't like most widebodykits...and apparently I'm not the only one. No big deal, everyone can't like everything. Some like 'em, some think the stock look is the best in the world. Long live the individuality!

See what I mean about the door extentions at the top!  I would love to these on a GT300

Yup I agree with you  s;) ;) s;)

I just though you guys though that every thing with these type of fenders looked ugly.   s:oops:  s:oops:    s:lol:  s:lol:

I reckon that some '2 bodykits aren't far off that Porsche.  Considering you can get a '2 to look like a ferrari... how long before someone does a bodykit to look exactly like this?

I think the GT looks great, but I still think this is the best looking car of all time:

http://www.astonmartin.com/vanquish_intro_base.html

I walk past one in Mayfiar every morning in the Bentley dealership just across the road from the office. It's possibly the most achingly beautiful car I have ever witnessed in the flesh.

And, BTW, a close second would be the Gallardo that was parked outside yesterday  :-) :-) :-)  I LOVE working in Mayfair

Now that might be something special!!

It would really mess people up as well - the standard car already looks more than a little boxter'y - looking like a carrera gt would be the nuts!!
or maybe that's just me...  s:oops:  s:oops:

and you even get free painted calipers so not rust issues!!  s:lol:  s:lol:

Edit - Ender - I so badly miss that area - used to work in New Bond St (by Asprys)  So much scenery this time of year - female and car kind!!

Here's what I see as a beautiful "door extension", the Italdesign Cala:
 m http://www.fast-autos.net/italdesign/it ... ncala.html m

Note how the door lines up with the front fender, without any gaps. Same for rear fender lineup. And the door looks like it just has a groove to get the engine the air it needs, not like it was "forced to grow outwards".

JMHO, YMMV, ASO  s:roll:  s:roll:

THIS is why I hate things like the VS they WANT to be something like this.    Go look at a VS up close, run your hands over it.  Then go look at a F40 and tell me the difference.

Every vent on the VS is just stuck on so it looks like its something cool, every vent on the F40 does something and helps the car in someway.  You walk away from the F40 still remembering how the Carbon Fiber body felt under your finger tips though the paint in awe, you walk away from the VS thinking how funny looking the front matched the rest of the car and how ugly the door lines now look and how stuck on it all felt.

ITS a wannabe!  The Max Power boys hate our cars, but really they are all trying to make there cars like ours, they want a car that everyone looks at (I got that in a stock blue!), they want a car with great power to weight (they think only big power gets it, but we know better) and they want to go round bends like a race car, THEY want what we have and they make themselves feel better by calling our cars lumps of crap and hairdressers cars, we look at there Novas and sigh, WHY in Gods name would you want to stick that kit on a beautiful sports car and become a wannabe, the kinda car that a 911 owner would look at and sigh, a 911 wannabe.
