does anyone know of a locking plate/device available for the hard top to prevent anybody stealing it.

Interesting question! Do you mean theft from a garage etc., or while its on the car?

I'm not aware that any device exists, but with a bit of thought I'm sure someone could design a means of locking down the push button on the release mechanism, or clamping it securely when stowed away.

Seen as all the 4 catches to release the roof are inside and the car is alarmed I wouldn't lose sleep about it. IIRC the only instance of an MR2 being stolen in any way shape or form was a member on here who had a burglary and the keys were taken.
ex-TTE Turbo, now Freelander Sport, its not a car its a Landrover!
