winter tyres

Hi all,

After the wheel refurb I have a spare set of 15" alloys.  As I've had no joy selling them, I'm thinking of sticking a set of tyres on for the winter and keeping the refurbed ones smart for summer use.

Any ideas what is a good choice of tyre for crappy uk winter driving conditions?

Cheers

Hmmm, cheers - but...  I had done a little search before I posted and spotted the reference to Yokohama studless snow tyres.  A coleague of mine got himself a celica import.  That came with jap snow tyres of some sort - may well have been the same.  First day he had it he managed to smack it into a curb sliding off a bend on a dry road!  So I'm not son keen on them.

Guess what I'm after is an affordable uk tyre with good wet weather performance - maybe at the expanse of dry conditions high speed performance.

Then come spring the shiny wheels come out again with the toyos on.

Cheers

On the assumption you don't want snow tyres, TBH I don't think you will get much better than keeping the Toyo's on.

There might be a specialist wet only tyre out there, but if there is I bet its expensive, and I bet you lose something on dry days (like rubber).

probably a good idea this, i've notice the Toyo's are rather slippery in the wet, leafy conditions we have at the mo, could be fun in the snow  s:twisted:  s:twisted:

LOL, two views couldn't be further apart   s:D :D s:D

To be honest, the most likely course of action is going to be a nice new pair of toyos on the front and let the shiny wheels take their chances in the crappy weather as I can't aford to be buying six toyos for the '2 (in addition to the 4 I need for my car!)

Just felt like a nice idea to make use of the spare set of wheels - otherwise they're just a waste of space!

This thread has some info on winter tyres.

I found it by using the search button, and the search term "winter AND tyres" (without the double quotes).
