Alot of you from here wont know me but I have been on the mr2 forums for 10 years this year, I have mainly been a MK2 owner having had import (turbo) cars mainly. I bought my first mr2 revision 1 turbo in 2006 as my first proper decent car at the age of 24 and have had a revision 5 UK car (non turbo) then the better spec'd revision 3 turbo before selling that and moving onto my first PFL roadster 2012 from an advert I saw on here. I still have a MK2 at the moment with a 3vz (3ltr v6) engine in it as my toy!
It was a crash damaged x reg on a category D write off which only had 53K miles on it at the time so I repaired and have been driving around in it since then as well as the odd modification over the time. TRD stage 1 kit, faceflift gearbox and new clutch, alloys, exhaust c one scoops tte style bar etc. The car has been one of the best cars I have ever had but now after covering 50k miles in 4 years of ownership and good abuse, i have decided it was time to replace old faithful. Some of you are interested in the parts off the car that I have said I am breaking on facebook, but today I bought Nemo as named by the previous owner had him (now her because she belongs to me) collected and shipped to my work where I am going to get her ready for an MOT and in due time alot of love and attention to get her just right and back to a great form as well as being my daily car. This is what my first and current roadster once I fixed the rear quarter damage, I went for a late night photo op at Wembley
And this is currently she looks like
From what I can tell the car was imported in 2006 as is with only 43K KMs on the clock and then converted to miles then and since then its only got upto 66K miles so the engine has only done about 50K miles. The last time the car was MOT'd was in 2013 and it has been parked up for the last 2 years. Hopefully I can achieve something even better this this one considering its a far better example to start with

Thank you, the plan as stands so far is get it MOT'd and enjoy it and after that its;
- Alot a detailing to see what I can do for the paintwork, it will need to be repainted at some stage and the fibre glass damaged panels repaired and refitted
- Coilovers being swapped out for some new BC racing ones at some stage
- Hardtop fitted and painted to match the gulf racing colour scheme
- I am not 100% on the direction of what way to go with the engine, I could have a SP240 turbo kit if I want to buy it or do I go 2zz ge as its a sports engine or even possible build a forged 2zz and turbo charge it too (probably not going to happen to b honest but is a possibility none the less lol)
- I want the car to be my everyday car which will normally see about 10K miles a year so it has to be livable too.
I have lot of people interested in bit from my car (my post on facebook) when it get broken after this one get MOT'd and on the road, I have tired to keep it as a first come first served basis, but I do want to get things pretty quick to be honest.

Well this little beauty passed its MOT yesturday with a little help, rear fog light bulb and polishing up the headlamps and today I got to drive it on the road for the first time s:bounce: :bounce: s:bounce: the coilovers are firm but not unpleasant and the lightened flywheel makes a noticeable difference too. I am looking forward to fitting my underdash sub box and amp and swapping over my arm rest too.
I want to do a good service first and then get a rear Cusco strut brace and alloys hopefully some nice JDM ones

There was discussion somewhere on one of the Facebook groups about that very car. It's not very wife friendly, however, it's a tidy looking car.
We couldn't understand why if the owner was so sure that it would pass an MOT, why he didn't bother?
But congrats. That's a good car and IIRC was a very good price. Enjoy s:D :D s:D
It would be interesting to see that if possible, the previous owner seemed a nice person to be honest and really loved the car and didnt really want to let it go but as I promised to do it up and not break it that helped. It was and thank you for the comment.

thanks folks for the kind words I am still in the process of still breaking my old roadster and the only thing I have carried from old car was the alloys, the tow strap and the sound system (amps, speakers and underdash sub box). I have a hardtop kitting coming and will be looking into getting a hardtop at some stage and it will be colour coded with the paint scheme when it has all the bodywork and paint issues sorted out.
So after the time that I have had driving it so far the coilovers are very firm but not uncomfortable I might swap them out for a newer set something like BC's or return to my first setup of a stock shock and TTE spring combo. This should hopefully give me a little higher ride height give me more ground clearance for the front bumper. The front bumper needs to come off and be refitted at some stage as the fittiment isnt the best and also the tow eye and tow strap doesn't fit with the aftermaket bumper.

I think the car looks great get the front bumper fitting right and the hardtop done and it will look the dogs. I think you know I like the Gulf colours anyway.
With JAE looming and the car not having had a detail yet and a service it got some attention over the weekend as I am off. After I finished work on friday I started by changing the old oil in the engine and putting on a new OEM oil filter too, when I checked the air filter it had a Trust air filter there which looked like it has seen better days so have ordered a new KN panel filter to replace it. I cleaned the MAF too and just have the idle control valve to sort out as it has an idle issues at the moment when sometimes it wants to the sit at 1500 rpm or 950 rpm or just above 500 rpm (at this point it wants to stall, not that pleasant to drive like this to be fair).
I know the paint isnt the best at all compared to what I have had in the past so I started with a light compound (Meguires Ultimate machine compound) and my autosmart smart tool for a couple of hours and this was the result just from that
Now there's a shine starting to come through its started to look like a someones car rather than a barn find which is a step in the right direction too, while in and out of my valeting kit I found an old JDM flare which I also installed into the passenger footwell and that was enough for friday considering I had been at work since 5.30am and it was 6pm when I left there. Saturday morning came and the weather was nice, I was bored too so set about givng it a coat of AutoGlym Super Resin Polish to get those other little bits off that I missed and the finished it off with a coat of Megs step 3 Carnuba wax.
I had noticed that that the roof seemed stiff it take down considering the temperature so checked out the drainage pockets and wow the stuff that I pulled out of there was mad, pens, a toothbrush, an old fruit container pot and probably enough rotting material that looked like compost I could of grown something in it lol. I also have moved one of my small 2lb Toyota fire extinguisher into the car as well as I ended up having a couple in my v6. And just because I can heres a pic of them both parked up in the compound, I am not looking forward to the task detailing the V6 on wednesday before JAE as that will end up being all day I think lol
I am also still not sure if I should buy my other halfs turbo and install into this or just enjoy it as an NA as it my daily drive and my V6 has 210bhp and 200 ftlb which is my toy
Do the turbo it will then go how it looks!

I bought the car back a few months ago and it went back on the road this month, so to see where she's at it went on the dyno yesturday and all seems good producing 139.9bhp.
Now where to go from here is a good question. How would you make it go like it looks?
I have some ideas but would mind hearing some of yours

That's a very healthy number for stock. Nicely done.
Many knows ways to "make it go". None of them easy or cheap.
Most cost-effective, power to cost ratio, is turbo. Then 2zz. Then supercharger. Then K20. Then v6,with the 2gr being the pinnacle but 5 figures.
Turbo is also the most diy-able. As long as you follow the lessons learned on the forum and get good engine management
I am like the idea of k20 and then poss turbo later down the line
Are you going to replace these coilovers? If so can i have the rusty ones?

So on friday I managed to my a 06 Sable turbo charged 1zz running 270bhp which I am going to pull the engine, drive line and electrics stuff to put into mine and I am looking forward to getting it go like it looks

Right so a little update for you and something to keep track of what I have done so far.
I have booked this week off work to do my turbo conversion!
Oh so I bought a turbo kitted roadster a few months ago and stripped it of the bits that I wanted to do my build and sold the shell and desirable bits back on to recover some of my outlay. The kit is a bit of a hybrid Monkey wrench racing one from what I can work out, it running power fc and was mapped at noble motorsport where at 10psi it produced 270bhp and 230ftlb
Monday saw me dropping my 50k mile the engine and gear out;
Tuesday saw me cleaning down the engine bay and get a few odd and side and investigate my old engine a little;
Wednesday saw me order some parts from Toyota and get more bits to clean down the gearbox, install engine and
Today should hopefully see my collect my bits from Toyota, install the gearbox and run the loom.
Hopefully Friday will see me fit the turbo kit and the other little bits and pieces as well as service it and have it up and running.....
That's the plan anyway and get the geo done on Saturday

Well I didn't get it running time sunday morning due to one thing or another but I have been plugging away at it this week a tomorrow sees me bleeding the cooling system and hopefully getting my first few shake down tests

I managed to get the geo done yesturday at driftlimits performance ... and wow this is the setup the the mk3 needed.
I need to get better wheels and tyres as it seems to light up the rear wheels in 2 and 3
I got my geo done last week also and the difference it makes always surprises me. Have you decided on wheels yet? I liked the photo shops

Just standard at the mo, Victor at driftlimits knows what he's doing, I have a set I am considering at the mo 15x7 and 15x8 bur waiting to hear back
So since my last update I have put some mileage on the car and really enjoying the smiles per miles, fitted a set of 16x7 Lenso's D1Rs in black, Replacement Top Secert front bumper and this Saturday I back off to Surrey Rolling Road this Saturday to see what she is actually producing
Always good to get the afr checked for safety and interesting to see what power it makes.
I need to get mine on the rollers for the same reason
Might be worth a message to see if Charlie has space as it's one of his £40 run days
So Charlie did power runs and a couple of checks and said he was very happy with it and said it's all where it should be and don't change anything!
I did walk away with a nice result and a couple of print outs, I was told boost level had been set at 10psi

So the weekend just gone I finally got to spend some time tidying her up a little
First job on saturday was to sort out the battery relocation I did on the fly to just get it running. It was a very rough and ready job, so using some spares I have hanging around I made it a bit nicer Its still not where I would like it to be but it loads better wouldn't you agree
Sunday saw some change and sorting out of the interior. When I sold it a few years ago alot of it was bought by someone who tracked it and then they stripped out it's always something I wanted to sort and not really got around too.
As it's January and it's traditionally a time when people stay in and also as I ended up buying an oil brunner of a roadster I decided it was to have more bits of it to tidy mine. The cubby bins and flaps where reinstalled as well as the plastics around the soft top and swapped out my fabric seats for leathers.
I still need to replace a few more bits of plastic trim and soft top too as mine has holes in it. This will be next weekend's job as well as remove the the UK pfl gearbox as my MR-S gearbox doesn't have a diff... gutted because I sold my facelift uk box thinking that I had a diff in my box
Today I am going to try to remove the soft top and frame from my parts possible try to remove mine as well and refit the better (the one with out holee) on to mine. It will be nice if I can do it and soft top fun this year
So I've been lucky enough to get a slot on MR2DC stand at practical classics and restoration show at the end of March at the NEC, this means I'm going to have to pick up the pace on tidying my lil beast up... 😁
Luckily there are after a resto project which mine is.
I have pretty much stripped the spares car at the mo and going to drive it out of the workshop on the weekend after The Megiures demo event day on Sat
Simple things I can start doing are
painting my brake calipers orange
painting the branding on the tyres and I am thinking changing tyre sizes to 225/45/16 on the front and 245/45/16 on the rear I generally run Toyo T1rs until I can get ad08r's
Last Saturday I got to experince driving around the back roads of Bucks with the hardtop off and the Soft top down and... my oh my it was amazing lol
Today she was MOT day and it passed just needed a rear number plate blub replacing
Today I finally got around to fitting my replacement headlamps and wow so fresh
I'll be round to pick up my old (now to be current) front bumper off you soon! Sorry been ill..
So with the lockdown on the Practical Claasis and Resto show at the NEC has been postponed, so I am taking the time to do a few tweeks to the car.
The leather interior has gone and I am back to the fabrics till source a set of reclining bucket seats that I like and fit in and get in the car.
I have sourced a UK 6speed box and gear shifter to the swap after lockdown. I also have UK PFL gearbox and if know one wants that I will pull the LSD out of it for my MR-S and have the best of both if I want it.
I started stripping back the brakes, started removing some of the dirt and grime up inside the arches and painting my calipers and the edge of the brake sheilds.
As the car has quite a presence both in colour and power with an interloper hanging out the back of it I have always thought it needs wider tyres Front and Rear. I am currently running 205/45/16 x7j on the front and 225/40/16 x7j on the rear, while the front was in the air when doing my calipers I checked to see if the 225 would work... clearance is good with my current suspension setup! So I think 245 profile for the rear will be coming at some stage in the future.

This weekend saw calipers / carriers and the edges of the brake sheilds painted, centre caps of alloys removed and a bit of tyre pen action
I have been lucky to have a feature done on my car in the new MR2 Only Magazine which is out now

First problem ever with the car came about today!
So weird one today... Car started, ran moved after 15mins turned it off went to start it an hour later and dead, no lights on the dash or interior but 12v at battery.
Before I spend hours and hours which I prepared to do diagnosing and investigating anyone else had this or aware of issues
I was only moving it so I could get a friend's roadster into the workshop so we could change the exhaust system for him, it's almost like he gulf has become a jelious lover lol
@Oddshoes If not a loose earth,
Maybe a fuse, but sorry not a clue as to which, I had a similar problem in the 60's with an A 35 van and that turned out to be a faulty fuse.
On a "modern" car there is very much more to go wrong but everything electrical still goes through a fuse/ circuit breaker.
It turned out to be a bad earthing point from where I did the battery relocation, why it choose to show up now so many months laterI don't know but at least it happened while at home be is sorted quickly

I sat in them the other day and would of snapped them up if my plans hadn't changed they fit the 2 well and look great in the gulf
Well theres a bit of an update since September....
In late November I became a father for the first time to our son and life has definitely changed for the better for our family and the cars have taken a back seat.
Speaking of seats I sold the S2000 seats as I needed to free up some money and the car is going to be parked up for sometime now and I still had the seat that came out of it.
I have been playing around in the workshop and managed to now get mine and the wife's MR2 in there with space to get around both and theres space for racking with parts on and my toolbox with some extra storage space
I also might have access to a set of hubs from my wife's MK2 and wonder has anyone done a 5 stud conversion using these or is it possible?
Any tips or links will be handy if you know of anything

So it's been nearly a year since my last update.
The car has been parked up in the workshop most of the time, but I was lucky enough to be asked to put it on the MR2 Drivers Club stand for Practical classics and resto show earlier this month at the NEC in Birmingham.
I put the car in for an MOT and she went straight through, it was great to drive it again and got a great deal with Lancaster insurance and happy to recommend them too.
Funny things happened tho, I was lucky enough to of meet the person who imported my car back in 2004 and get more history about it, it does look highly likely it was a promo car.
I also got interview about the car by Classic. Retro. Modern. magazine which can be seen on youtube too.
I have also found post from 2009 that my car has also been owned by roughly 3 pervious members on here
