Title: How Difficult To Replace The Aerial & Motor Myself?
Post by: Anonymous on February 17, 2006, 14:42
My stock one doesn't go up and down, stays up all the time, I have been quoted £100 plus out a garage but I have managed to source a second hand one for £25.00 and my question is how easy to fit this myself?

I aint the best at tricky jobs but if it is just a matter of removing the wheel etc then I could maybe give it a go myself.

Thanks

You have to remove the wheel, plastic arch liner then the rear wing itself. Not too difficult, but only you know your mechanical limits!

I think its wise to throw in a safety warning too, to ensure that your car is properly supported (ie not just on a jack) if you're removing wheels.

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but we don't want you to damage your car  s:lol:  s:lol:    s:wink:  s:wink:

Be safe.

How difficult is it to remove the inner and the arch? I have done things like this before, easy to come off but a btard to put back on and get it lined up.

How long do you reckon it would take from start to finish?

So defo no no with just a jack, I had to paint all the callipers with just the jack holding the car up???

See here for what happens when you don't support the car properly when changing the aerial (http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8037&highlight=accident)

 s:oops:  s:oops:

Use proper jack stands, and you'll be ok. Shouldn't take much more than 2 hours, I reckon. And that's not including dropping your car on it's brake discs.  s:wink:  s:wink:

Jesus Chr1st, axle stands for me i think Ekona, not going through that, I always make bad things happen when I try these jobs.

Ekona how difficult is it to get all the panels off and the new aerial fitted etc, are there any nasty bolts/screws to get too?  i'm just doing a straight stock replacement.

i would have attempted this job with just the normal jack as well so glad you showed me this post.  s:shock:  s:shock:    s:shock:  s:shock:

It's really obvious what to take off and where, nothing's awkward or anything. It's about as straightforward as a job can be on the '2.
