Post by: Anonymous on February 19, 2006, 16:28
Hi all i'm a new user and i've bought a w reg mr2.
The engine started using oil and knocking on the big ends.

Got good compression.
Timing is spot on
But it's only firing on number 2 and 4 cylinder.
Tracing the fault and iv'e got no pulse on number 1 and 3 coil.
done all the swapping of coils and plugs and cleaning of sensors.

HELP...PLEASE...I AINT GOT MUCH HAIR LEFT!!!  s:x :x s:x

The fireing is directly controlled by the ECU, outside of that the only other wireing is a common power supply and earthing system.

sorry looks like the ECU may have died  s:( :( s:(

The result of swapping the coils and plugs was that the fault didn't move so it can't be any of them. Was hoping that it would be somthing like the crank sensor or cam sensor.

Was it definately a rebuilt engine and not an exchange?  I know there are problems with import engines using UK ECU'S.

Everytime we swap an engine we use the same ECU that came with it.

It was definitely re-build, I oversaw the build and have all the old parts.
The ecu has been sent away for testing/repair.
I will post the result for anyone else stuck in the future.
Thanks for the help Guys
