Title: Very Tasty Drilled Brakes!
Post by: Anonymous on February 20, 2006, 21:50
Does anyone know if MR2 spyder brakes fit on the roadster??? Someone please tell me they are as I have just found some nice drilled rotors from a company called DiscItalia. Has anybody got any or heard of them before??

Is there a UK Distributor?? My searches have dug up nothing so far.

Check out the following link:

Not an expert, but the Brembo's look better to me.  Brembo's are good as far as I know - well I know my Boss's Evo VIII has them on - and that stops quick, I KNOW  :-) :-) :-)  LOL

yeah noticed that on their site, bit odd really.

ok - you prob know by now, im no mechanic by a very very long shot, and dont pretend to be.

Are the rear disks that much different to the fronts then ?

If they're drilled through, don't touch them - heat cycling will cause the drilled holes to crack.

Grooved or 'dotted' disks are OK as they don't cause stress points in the brake disk material.

But, TBH - the Roadster's brakes are fantastic as they are. The only mod I'd make would be to fit braided brake hoses.

Same car it maybe, but always best to check, there can inevitalby be some variances on foreign models, hence asking on the forum. However, thanks for the  clarification!

I did notice the Brembos, afterall I was doing a search for them in the first place!!!!

Since they didn't do them on the rear, I was looking for matching front and back and came across the Discitalia rotors.

Can anyone answer my original questions though???????? UK Dist???

As for problems with the drilled discs, why do Brembo do predominantly drilled discs at £xxxxx a go and are widely regarded as the best? Are there to many cheap immatations out there?????

If they're originally *cast* with the holes in place, that's fine - eg OEM Porsche etc.

If instead some plain disks are drilled through to make the holes, this causes stress points - when the disk is heat cycled in normal driving, this causes cracks ...

'Dotted' disks aren't so much of a problem as the hole doesn't go all the way throgh.

I've run grooved disks for many trackdays on my old Mk2 turbo and had no problems with those, but they did have an appetite for brake pads.
