Hi everyone,
I have a couple of issues with my soft top strap (the one that pulls the ears in).
Firstly it appears as though the previous owner has been using the car without the strap attached and unfortunatly at some point in time the part of the strap that is attached to the hood with the popper on it has got stuck in the metal frame and shattered the popper.
This makes it very hard it actually attach the strap, although it will attach with just the velcro (so hopefully it will hold). Is there any other way i can secure this connection, bit of tape or something?.
Also when i was rethreading the strap i noticed that there are two possible places inside the hood liner to thread it through. Initially there is the big tunnel in the hood liner and then there is a smaller tunnel within that where i think a spring of some sort is in.
Which is the best cavity to thread it through as i have noticed its rattling at the moment in the large cavity.
does this help?

Thanks for that. I had searched and found that earlier.
But unfortunatly that guide doesn't help.
It doesn't mention anything about the two tunnels and which one should i should thread it through and also what to do with a bust popper.

you can buy a repair kit on SC, it comes with replacement poppers but you'll need to get a trim company to fit them
Threading through the smaller tunnel completely cured my ears and has not come unpopped since. s:D :D s:D
I doubt the velcro on it's own will hold....IIRC some people have drilled a small hole through the centre of the two popper parts and used a cable tie, that ain't going nowhere!!
Thx for advice chaps. I will give that go once its dried up out there.
Hi,
You might find this useful:

They are instructions I wrote about how to install a new top strap kit that I purchased in this GB:

This kit came with replacement poppers and I paid a man £5 to fit them.
Personally I wouldn't use a cable tie. I fitted one and now the section that the strap attaches to is a bit broken (see one of the images in my "how to" post). I suspect that this may have been caused by the strap not being able to release if it really needed to.
Just my 2p.
Ta,
Fraz.
my button was totally broke. all i did was sewn a couple of stitches to attach the strap together. job done and no more ears. easy
