Title: Upgrading suspension - dilema. Help MR2ROC!
Post by: Anonymous on March 11, 2006, 19:29
Right guys, I have a 2003 MR2. Current mods as below.

I am now contemplating tweaking the suspension setup. However my budget wont stretch to everything I want (atleast not all in one go).
So from the three options below which should be my first step (in your opinion)

1/ TRD FSB (Also trd airfilter)
2/Corky's breast plate (and TRD filter again)
3/ TTE Lowering springs - as fitted by Silverstone Performance.

BTW - I only use the car at weekends and attend a few trackdays a year (nothing serious though).

cheers.

Now that's a tough choice.. Me, I'd go:

1/ Corkys
2/ Springs
3/ FSB

It's a hard call - but I reckon the Corky's does so much more than tighten the handling up - it makes everything less crashy, bangy & rattly, which is a major bonus  s:) :) s:)

Springs next as they make the car look so much better, as well as helping out the handling.

FSB last, as on it's own I reckon it'd be a little wasted.

I reckon you'll get a different answer from everyone on this one, though  s:) :) s:)

Hmmm.... I might go springs first - tighten you up a bit, look good for summer & with the added bonus that you're not buying a Corky at a time when they're a bit pricey  s:wink:  s:wink:

....or maybe leave the TRD filter out and invest in springs and Corky together.

Corky plate is a great and simple mod. You'll notice a difference, but I have to say that I feel more benefit when the hardtop is on..... so does that mean there is mileage in stiffening the car higher up? I'd say so, and FSB might make your steering a little more positive but, as Aaron alludes, it would probably benefit from prior chassis stiffening.

So what am I recommending? I'm not sure  s:lol:  s:lol:

Nurse!

I'm contemplating go back to stock tin-can chassis bracing and getting the TTET cross brace which runs the full width of the car and ties into the stock braces. Its another option for you I suppose (do the same or wait for me to sell my Corky  s:wink:  s:wink: ).

TRD

Budget and TRD don't mix very well.  s8) 8) s8)  I suggest you look at cheaper copies, like this one:

First is definately lowering springs as it improves the look of your 2
Second is Corky's

I would definetly go for springs first and a air filter try  w www.newtoyotaparts.com (http://www.newtoyotaparts.com) w  for this takes ages to come but is very cheap. Then it would be corkys as your car is not that old and the the front brace but like Aaron says everyone is different.

mmm - it might be the springs. Having looked at pictures of cars running the tte setup the stock car does look a little jacked up. Also it would be a good excuse to visit sp and maybe cadge a ride in their demo car.
I'll just have to watch out for those speed bumps.

I have had my springs on for about 3 months and have had no trouble with any speed bumps so you should be OK.

I agree with Aaron. I actually did Breast Plate (not Corky's), FSB, Lowering, TBH based on price rather than anything else.

I just fitted a Corkys and Che's front member brace, Check spyderchat for details. Fantastic bang for your bucks. Turn in is so precise and you'll fit both in under an hour. Delivery and pieces for less than £200. Corky also does a front strut now, might be able to combine it and the plate and save on postage.

for me it would have to be

1) FSB
2) Corkies
3) Springs

but this is a really hard one to say what is best as they're all really important in they're own right. Do them all as and when you can is all i'd say
