I'd like to make my engine sound a little bit "gruffer" and was wondering if you can get just an air filter element that will do this? I remember I used to have an Alfa Romeo 155 and changed the element to a K&N one and it completely changed the sound. The standard MR2 engine isnt the most impressive sound in the world! If possible I'd rather not have to changed the entire air intake etc. Thanks.
just a hunch, but it's just possible this has been asked before
perhaps a search would help
Sorry! I'm afraid Im guilty of this twice now! Both times the question had been asked before! I promise to search first next time!
in my opinion, you would be better off spending your money on a markii inlet pipe.... i have one, im sure it will give you the sound your after, should only be a few pounds more than a k and n.
The combination of a panel filter like a K&N or TRD, with the Markii inlet is a pretty efficient way of getting a bit more growl without drawing in too much hot air.
Having said this, I'm now going for an Apexi, as I want even more growl.
There'll be my K&N and polished inlet duct going soon.
Just took delivery of a blitz panel filter for stock airbox £40 delivered from fensport.
contrary to previous reports this is not now simply a wiremesh but now incorporates a cotton layer as well (akin to the K&N).
Not driven with it yet but it has certainly improved the induction noise slightly (still not quite as loud as I'd like!)
I didn't really think a TRD filter would be dramatically better (baring in mind the tiny gains you are going to get with a filter change) to justify an extra £40 and two week wait.
for pure sound the Apexi Power Intake has to be the one to go for, but it wont give any power increase
I'll check those ones mentioned out. Not too concerned about power gains just a bit of noise for the least amount of £££'s!

no Mark is correct, we have the issue on the site of 99% of topics already being discussed a thousand times before and as such we go into a damage limitation on our website. If all conversations were allowed to carry on then we would end up with the website crashing more because the database would overload. Sorry if this sometimes comes over as a bit hostile but its only in the interest of the club
Nicely explained Stu, when folks see the rationale ,( including me) ,it makes perfect sense and the original instruction isn't seen as quite so harsh.
Don't worry I took no offence and learnt my lesson! s:) :) s:)
on behalf of the committee, sorry for any offence taken, its not ment to be nasty, but sometimes from this side of the fence we have good reasons for doing things, trust us we always have the clubs interest in mind, thats why you voted us in
I appreciate all the work that goes on.
Kind of makes my wonder what people did before the internet and forums were around. Guess any unanswered questions were solved by the expensive dealers!
