Had a quick search but couldn't turn up what I wanted to know..
Apart from the switch, what does the drivers side window have for the one touch open thingy to work that the passenger side doesn't?
Or in other words if I was to get another 'Auto' switch from the drivers side and fit it to the passenger side would it fit/work?
And while I'm on the subject why don't we have one touch close aswell?

The drivers side window switch connects to the body ECU which in turn controls the auto down. The passenger switch connects directly to the window motor.
(some) J-Spec's get auto-up as well (IIRC)

having both windows with auto-down seems an easy thing to be done since you (UK, Japan and most of Asia, Australia, etc...) have a right auto-down and we (the rest of the civilized world, starting with the froggies and the burger eaters s:lol: :lol: s:lol: ) have an auto-down on the left window... s:idea: :idea: s:idea:
is it only a couple of wires to add or does it need a sensor in the door? s:?: :?: s:?:
Have a read of this (http://www.spydermagazine.com/2001/Sept/windows/windows.htm), but bear in mind it's for a US car so some things may be reversed.
AFAIK, no-one has done this in the UK so you could be the first... s:wink: :wink: s:wink:
i've been looking at that diagram, its the same as the one i have here but its definatly not the full picture, with just the electrics on, pull up on the drivers switch and tell me what you hear. I can hear a relay clicking over under the dash, but theres none on the picture, and before someone says but whats in the ECU, thats over your left shoulder in a completely different location. I beleive that if you were to wire that up with a second ECU but connected to the pax window instead then it still wouldn't work. Sorry this avenue is a no go, an after market option is the only choice IMHO

We had a poster a couple of years ago who was taking suggestions for electronics projects to develop for the '2 - he was going to take this on but I've heard nothing since - maybe he got trapped in the window s:wink: :wink: s:wink:
If you really want to have the passenger window go "auto-down" like the drivers side one, there is a simpler way that getting caught up in ECU's etc...
Remove the complexity, and just replicate electrically what your finger is doing..
Install a drivers side switch for the passenger window, and connnect it to the window loom such that its up/down functions work in the normal way. Then connect a timer relay to the addition "auto" contact, so that when its triggered, it shorts the "down" contacts for a pre-determined length of time. Set it for the same amount of time as the window takes to travel its full distance.
If you're wondering why I've never done it if I think its so simple, its simply because I cant be bothered....

I wrote the source code for the microcontroller but no longer have access to the hardware to write it to the chips. Nor do I have access to PCB etching tanks anymore so I never really took the idea any further. I thought about buying in some of the DIY kits but then never bothered as I thought I wouldn't use them again.
Going back to GSB's idea; at the drivers side, does anybody know what detects when the window is fully down? does it use a microswitch?

no theres no microswitch so my guess is it looks for current spike to deactivate the motors travel

More than likely, as it can be very cheaply built into the body ecu, and saves adding further wires and switches. You could add the same functionality to the "simple" circuit idea above if you want, but I doubt it'd be needed.
I'm sure the stock setup senses the current.
Doesn't the window motor turn slower with lower voltage? I assume that would make time based auto up/down bit problematic. If you time it so that it works at say 10V, then the motor tries to spin for a while everytime the car is running and loading. Not to mention if you use the auto when the window is partially up.
The current sensing doesn't have those issues and it also stops the window if there's something inbetween and won't try to suffocate your child. s:? :? s:?

Not a problem Tem, I think people are only looking for auto down. Auto up has a whole load of other problems!

I did the auto up&down by getting a cheap window control module from eBay. It was from Cobra and £10 or so. I now have auto up&down for both windows, activated through the alarm (autoup, when turned on) and external buttons.
