Title: What Head Unit???
Post by: Anonymous on November 5, 2006, 20:12
Looks like my Sony double din head unit has given up on the tuner. It has been playing up for a while and now wont play the radio at all. CD works fine.

I'm not really into music and don't need anything better than the standard unit. The choice though is so big and having no idea I haven't a clue what I should get. I found the detail for what I need to change to a single din unit, spacers, trim, tray/storage slot and brackets, and I am going to MR T tomorrow to order. Does anyone know if the JVC: KD-G321 CD TUNER is any good. Seen one for £60 and although it sounds ok I wondered if it was too cheap to be any good.

Any help would be appreciated.   s:D :D s:D

Had my JVC KD-SH 750 stolen recently.  I'm looking at a JVC KD AVX1/2. I don't suppose you know if there's a direct link adapter.  Last time Ihad to cross connect with crimp connectors?

you could always go for the alpine 9850ri, its ipod ready and a real stonker  IMHO.

4.7GB recordable DVD audio mp3 disks are attracting me at the mo.  No doubt the Alpine is a higher quality unit.  JVC seems feature packed & good VFM.  I just don't fancy cross connecting with crimps (again).  I'd much prefer a direct adapter lead solution (lazy & the link to the site showing the pin-outs that kanu sent me over a year ago appears to be broken).

As long as the head unit comes with a lead that terminates with ISO plugs then you can just use an Autoleads adapter to turn the base MR-2 loom into ISO sockets and you're done..

If I'm understanding you correctly  s:) :) s:)

As I recall the JVC came with a lead having a plug to the HU and just flying open leads.  I purchased the other end i.e. connection to Toyota loom, also with flying open leads and then just cripmed & cross connected the two sets together accordingly.  hmmmmmmm

I hope this makes sense, it's been a long day   s:? :? s:?

Clicky - anyone got one of these? (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JVC-KD-AVX2-CAR-STEREO-GIGA-MP3-DVD-CD-RDS-3-5-SCREEN_W0QQitemZ120103701362QQcategoryZ39759QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

Ahh - my .. er.. oh hell, I can't remember what stereo I have  s:? :? s:?  came with a lead that goes to an ISO connector, so I could just purchase the adapter - much easier  s:) :) s:)

I looked at that JVC when I was looking around, it's very cool - and if JVC made an iPod adapter I'd have almost certainly bought that one..

But in the end I didn't, and bought the (remembered now  s;) ;) s;) ) Pioneer DEH-P77BT  s:) :) s:)

AVX2 - Ready for iPod (with optional KS-PD100)

You might have looked at the earlier AVX1, which didn't have the Ipod connectivity, I think.  I'm more of an IRiver man myself  - Ipods seem restrictive.

Having experience the Kenwood dual DVD (SatNav & DVD Video Player) in the family RAV-BUS I've enjoyed playing DVD's (usually stand-up comedy etc. on long journeys - sorry Mr Plod)

Yeah - when I was looking I don't think the AVX2 was out just yet..  The iPod isn't as restrictive as people think nowadays - plenty of alternative methods for manipulating it, and you can get your music back off it - although yeah, I'd rather you could just use it like an external hard disk and have it read the music  s:) :) s:)

Sounds like you have your permenant and switched lives the wrong way round (that's the red and yellow wires going into the headunit). Some wiring adapters/head unit looms already have bullet plugs in the red/yellow wires so you can swap them over easilly.
