looking to install a scanner to operate once the car has been left unattended.
its an import so there is no factory alarm to take the feed from the interior sensor or the likes as I normally would. There is a cheapo cobra alarm/immobilisor (fob type) in at present but this will be coming out to be replaced by a cat 1 alarm so dont really want to use any of the existing wiring as it will be redundant.
any ideas chaps?
cheers

anyone wanting to do the same.......
You need a 5pin relay with extra 87a pin
86 - to 12 volt ign (ideally via a switch so you have manual control over if ign feed is active or not)
87 - not connected to anything
87a - to the scanner
85 - to ground
30 - to battery (usually via a fuse)
these provide a connection from pin 30 to the 87a pin when the relay is not energised by pin 86 being fed with 12v.
When pin 86 does get energised it pulls the relay shut and disconnects pin 87a and connect 87 up to the feed from pin 30.
So you get the effect of
No feed from ign = 12v on pin 87a
12v feed from ign = 0v on pin87a
hope that helps someone in the future s:) :) s:)
For future reference, that's a switching relay. There are also opening and closing relays. Closing relay is the "normal" one. Opening relay is closed without power and opens when you apply power. s8) 8) s8)
The switching relay does the job fine though, no need to change it. s8) 8) s8)
