I'm thinking of getting a cheap sat nav system (Garmin Nuvi 300T). But here's my question, will I be able to use it with the top down? There's obviously alot more wind and road noise with the top down and alot more reflection from sun light, therefore will sat nav be a waste of money?
Mines fine with the roof down.
Obviously it becomes difficult to hear the thing with the roof down, radio on and the country side gliding past at 80mph!!
I can still see the pics though!
You could also use Muffdan's new accelerometer doda on your pda to time your 0--60's
Cheers, that makes me feel a more possitive about getting it now
Mines a dell axim x51 - i can crank the screen brightness right up.
I wouldn't know if you can do this on the garmin but it helps to have a bright screen when driving in the sun.
OK Cheers for the advice
i haven't had any probs with my tomtom as yet, although i do tend to use it wedged in the middle cubby hole rather than stuck to the screen..
you can always do what i've done, mounted it in a Navpod and given it an external amplified speaker to boost the sound output

Ditto!
Was going to buy a mount but this works really well...
Except make sure you hold onto it if you try and do a 0-60 run. I launched the car and my satnav went into orbit!

That's the long term plan stu - get the permanent mount kit for the tom and a navpod and them fashion some kind of custom liner/cover..
you should see Darths one, the design and finish is excellent

I was hoping to do this if I got one but wasn't sure if it would cut off the reception
i use tom tom 6 in mine, with wireless bluetooth 32 satelite GPS.
works great.
i dont tend to listen to the voice just watch the pictures.

I use a mkII TOMTOM Bluetooth reciever (SIRFIII). I get an excellent signal. Even putting the reciever in my pocket, doorbin or glovebox still gernerates a useable signal.
mines the same, i can stick it anywhere and it gets a signal.
glove box yes, but i tend to put mine in the centre bin on the dash, and i mount my sat nav in there as well.
