Title: Faulty Radio Unit
Post by: Anonymous on January 25, 2007, 13:37
Please can anyone help, I have A faulty Sony raidocdtape unit in my MR2 Year 2000. It intermittently switches itself on and off. I can be driving for 20 mins then it swiches on or off depending. Sometimes the unit power goes off but the cd is still playing. It can freeze on the a track number eg No 2 but still goes through the cd and clears itself eventually.I switch the car off and the cd is still playing and swicthes off 10 mins after Ive locked the door. Strange but true and annoying.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks
Bern

Hi Bern, I guess its probably knackered.

Fear not however as i'm selling my perfect one on ebay - see this link:

sounds like it could be knackered - have you looked at the connections (or been to a hifi shop?) Maybe you'll get lucky and just be able to replace it with a 3rd party headunit

I think I will try an audio place at the weekend...see what they say, I cannot check the connection myself as I dont know what Im looking for.  I took it to a garage and it was fine all the time they had it, it happens for me first thing in the morning I thought it might be the weather but then it happens when I get in the car after work...it seems if its stood stil for a number hours it losses some connection to power back on...

Thanks for your reply

Just a thought, no electrical expert......

Could there be a short somewhere that the movement of the car makes, then undoes. If so, whether its inside the unit, or outside in the wires or connectors would be the question.

You say you are taking it to an audio shop, make sure they deal with auto electrics as well, that way you have all bases covered.

I think you have a good point Roger as the radio does switch on say 20 mins into my journey..thanks for the tip for auto electrics.
