I have had a good look and cannot 100% confirm if the newer Fisher price H/U will fit directly into a prefacelift MRS and MR2. I am being asked on Ebay and the MRS owner believes that they have more electical plug connections than out two. Anybody know for sure as the earlier models had the Sony which may be connected differently s:?: :?: s:?:
I can root out my old J-Spec (tape and minidisc!) H/U and check the connections if it helps? Just 2 IIRC .... and the conversion harness I bought over here works fine on the replacement DIN.

I think it will work by don't want to tell some Ebayer who then struggles and asks for a refund. I did suggest asking his dealer as if they say it would go in ok the issue would be down to them rather than me. Can't believe how many are watching it; 31 s:shock:  s:shock: Is there really that much demand for these as they're are a few on Ebay at the moment s:?: :?: s:?:
Tricky without trying it .... but the fact that the Autolead harness you can buy to convert from the stocker loom to an aftermarket unit is universal suggests that it should work .... doesn't it?
*edit - I'll check my '99 J-spec H/U and let you know whats on the back of it s:wink:  s:wink: *

Cheers Ste. Thats my thinking that it should definately go in. The car has always had a slot for a double size H/U and the loom and plugs have probably never changed from day 1 for any 2 derivative.
in theory, everything should conform to ISO standards

Oh yes your right Stu mate; but theory can be a funny thing especially when dealing with a Jap standard card s:? :? s:? I'm probably being over cautious but don't want to loose that 100% Ebay rating s:wink:  s:wink:
it will SteveJ swapped his over when he bought his first 03 and kept the sony
ISO standards for wiring do not apply to Toyota, as they use thier own plug and loom arrangement... However they haven't changed it since 1987.
The physical mountings on all Mk3 MR2's are identical, utilising a pair of brackets screwed into the ISO fixing points on the head unit to fix it to the 2 vertical struts under the dash. "Most" head units have these ISO Mount holes weather they are single or double DIN, although there are a few notable exceptions here, and will bolt in directly. After that its simply a case of obtaining the right bits of plastic to fill the holes. The wiring looms on the cars are identical regardless of year or market origin, so a fisher price head unit will fit any Mk3 and plug straight in without an adapter.
The new owner will howver need to contact his toyota dealer for the correct trim piece if he doesn't already have one.
