Title: drilling the dash top box

not sure if this is the correct place, looking for advice. i want to fit a gps camera detector in the box on top of the dash. can i drill the base and push/pull the cable down to the cigar lighter or is there a way to hard wire it without pulling half the dash of. thanks in advance for any help

if you drill in teh bottom left hand corner (carefully) you won't hit anything, I can't comment on teh rest of the bin area

drill a small hole without punching the drill through the other side and then take a small piece of wire and have a poke around through the hole, if you do it under the mat and there turns out to be something there, then put the mat back over it, but i do agree with Mark, rear left corner should be safe

if you mean the cubby?

on the right side at the back inside the bin is the most space, this us where toyota run the nav cables, you can literally cut out a good square inch if you wanted to without any fear of hitting anything.

as you can see from when i had the dash out, theres nothing on the right/back (right as in UK drivers side)

I drilled a small hole with a flat bottom drill near the front to check for wires before I continued, luckily, as I found that the loom runs directly under the front of the cubby.

This is where I've gone in too. Added bonus is that you can get your arm right up to it from the footwell James Herriot stylee.

Slightly off topic, but my GPS is in a PDA so I have to have it removable. I did think of drilling inside the cubby but got cold feet.

What I did was cut a small notch at the back of the hole where the cubby lid latch fits. The wires come up through this notch and lie in the cubby when not in use. When I want to use the GPS I just pull them out and attatch.
They are thin enough for the lid to go back down so avoiding rattles.

At least it avoids the wires up the front of the dash.
