I'm looking at buying a set of Lanzar Opti components to replace the mucky factory ones. These are pretty powerful so with a decent amp properly tuned I shouldn't need a sub.
Trouble is I'm not sure what depthe they are. Does anyone know what the maximum mounting depth of the mid bass driver in the door is??

I hope I'm wrong, but I reckon you'll still want a sub.
I have actually allowed for a sub - nothing much, probably an alpine 1600W or similar. I'm goin to attempt to mount it in the dash, behind the glove compartment.
As soon as I get the speakers etc. sorted I'll begin fitting and take some pics as I'm going along.
Got my headunit fitted (Kenwood DMask) - It's actually incredible the difference it makes, even with the factory speakers.

Actually, I'm tempted to ditch my sub. I started with 2x10 inch subs. I've already dropped one of them. With some well installed good components, a decent amp and headunit, it might be ok. Ok, it's never going to be as good as with a sub but in a '2, with space at a premium, I don't think putting in a sub is a given.

Well my thinking is that the cabin space is too small to apply a sub to. I think that the soundwaves coming from a low frequency speaker such as a sub ( especially one that's amplified) will distort the waves generated by a set of components. Each 'boom' if you will, will go some way to killing off the crisp and balanced sound of the components. 200W of components and 800W of sub - cmon.... you'd be lucky to hear vocals at all.
Of course, if you like your boom boom music then I'm sure you'll want to pack as much bass in as you can. But I'd say with the top up, from the outside it looks as if the cabin is inflating every time the bass kicks.
It's all very much down to personal taste I guess
I think you might need a sub with those. Specs say 55Hz which isn't great for 6.5 inch components. s:roll: :roll: s:roll:
