What do ya all think about having blue neons lighting up the underside of your 2 s:?: :?: s:?: Sad or cool s:?: :?: s:?: Has anyone done this s:?: :?: s:?:
get it lowered first at least. And I reckon blue would only work on Blue/Silver cars. And even then it's a very much on the Rice side... so if you did go down that route, make sure you buy some of this for the next owner: http://board.accordtuner.com/showthread.php?t=205
Personally I don't like them, AnnMarie does... do it if you like it though, we encourage individualism here s:wink:  s:wink:

Nah, serious... think it'd complement the stealth look of it.
As for colour I think it depends on how you want to add to the stealth, blue for cold... red for racing, green for F&F look-a-like.
No...
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no......
Unles you really want to of course, then by all means go ahead. As Slacey quite rightly says, individualism is heartily encouraged. Its just a shame that every Max Power reading, modded 1.0l fartbox driving, backwards baseball cap wearing dickhead in the country has already got them though... It'd probably look quite unique otherwise.
If I did do it, I would go for red, to complement the black / red colour scheme. As I said before though I'm not keen... maybe one day though...

Thats the problem; Corsa owners have spoilt it 4 all.

Not to worry - the Courts were recently granted new powers to revoke licences for life for 'antisocial driving' & dangerous driving convictions..
So they'll have no licences soon, and there'll be no Corsa owners left s;) ;) s;)
s:lol:  s:lol:
Personally I really liked the idea of neons, on a really lowered car.. But I think the rest of the car has to look spotlessly clean, and not standard.. Having seen red ones on a black RX-7 the other week that was a wee bit tatty (sssshhh, don't tell the owner who was doing his level best to pose while driving around Reading), they don't look so good unless the car is utterly perfect..
Oh and they don't look that great in the daytime (a' la RX-7 owner) s:roll:  s:roll:
Aaron
bluephoenix's Veilside-kitted '2 has blue neons. Like many, they're not my thing, but in conjunction with the kit, it did at least look vaguely "right", in an F&F kind of way.
If you do fit them, make sure you can't see the tubes from a normal position; a subtle neon glow is one thing, visible striplights is another...
Dear God.

Whenever you see a car with blue neon round these parts, the word "ned" instantly springs to mind.
Do you have to wear a Burberry baseball cap to go alongside it? s;-) ;-) s;-)
If God wanted us to use underside neons, there would be some hanging from our ass s8) 8) s8)
I guess neons would be appropriate after some crazy bodykit, but please don't rape a nice MR2 with those s:? :? s:?
I was coming back down the M3 from Heathrow on Sunday night, and passed a J-reg red mini cooper with GREEN neons glowing underneath! s:roll:  s:roll: It looked like some kind of christmas bauble!
I was under the impression it was actually illegal to drive along with under-car lights on though? You're only allowed to use them for stationary off-road "posing"? LOL!
The only time I'm ever stationary off road and sitting in my car is when I'm cleaning it.. I don't hang around in carparks all night, so reckon they'd be useless for me.. although some blue neons in the footwells might be cool... s:wink:  s:wink:

My interpretation of the laws is that you can only 'display' certain colours of lights on each side of the car - e.g. the rear may only have red (brake, tail & fog), white (reverse) and yellow (indicators), and the front may only have white (headlamps, d'uh s:lol:  s:lol: ) and yellow (indicators), the sides only yellow (repeaters). Any other colour is illegal..
So you could put red neons on the back, yellow on the sides, and steal a striplight from your kitchen for the front s:D :D s:D s:lol:  s:lol:
Technically I think that makes the various other glowing things people put on cars illegal too (those hideous washer jet things, and any electroluminescent panels on badges etc).. But then you see plenty of lorries driving around with Xmas lights in the cab, so... s:D :D s:D

If you come down to Sarfend on a Saturday night you can see the whole spectrum of neon lights underneath cars and some sort of lights that pulse along with music (one for Buster there maybe!), best one I saw was a white Scooby which had a green apron all around it from underneath s:? :? s:? , I hasten to add I was not down there but watching the CCTV link from Sarfend police station.
Each to their own I suppose, but I suppose because of the cruisers down here you get used to seeing them and they don't look special. But I agree that the car would have to be lowered in order for them to look any good.

I think the washer lights are fine as long as they're not visible from the rear of the car/truck. I remember reading this specific about it somewhere not long ago.

Errr no!! But I used to have a giggle racing them off the lights on the way home after work on a Saturday when I finish at 22.00, shame they put 3 sets of Speed cameras in down the drag route into town, spoils all the fun! s:roll:  s:roll:
On the celi I had a set of blue neons and also blue led bars, these are the ones that can strobe, chase around the car or pulse to the music.
Neons give off a nice glow but generally are not that bright, leds are brighter but are more localised with the light, ie a bar of light rather than a glow.
Seeing that the law states no blue lights at all on a moving vehicle (apart from emergency vehicles) I was happily surprised that I never got pulled.
To be honest I found that i didnt use them that much and it was usually only in a convoy of celicas to and from meets, however I did have them on a remote so that you could easily locate your car in a car park from the blue glowing s;-) ;-) s;-)
for the boot install I used cold cathode lighting, this is twice as bright as neons and a third of the price, unfortunately its not as robust as neons so not practical for outside the car, but it would be ideal for footwells etc
I think I'd find footwell lighting annoyingly distracting.

How about black lights? Then every time you walk up to your car your shoe laces will glow
Quote from: "phil4"So why'd you hide it away?
The glow doesn't really show up in that pic - but the entire inside glows blue.. It's up against the side of the desk because that's the only place it'd fit - I didn't realise quite how massively tall that case is when I bought it, and it all has to fit into a corner of my lounge like this (http://www.mind-design.demon.co.uk/pics/desk.jpg) s:D :D s:D
Quote from: "phil4"I think I'd find footwell lighting annoyingly distracting.
Yep, I agree it would be distracting to have them on when driving, but I was thinking more of having them connected to the vanity light.. I reckon it would look great to have the whole interior light up blue (on my blue car) as the doors open.. no more losing anything on the floor! s:oops:  s:oops:

Not only are they a eye sore for kids who want to pretend they are driving something special, they are also dangerous and WILL get you pulled over if you have them turned on whatever the colour. Even if the law is on your side you are just asking to get pulled.
A friend of mine ran his car up a curb a few weeks ago when a car came round a corner at high speed, the neon made him think it was a Police car or Ambulance.
Show cars ok, maybe. Road cars NO! Also why would you dump more weight and power loss on a lightweight low powered roadster!?

Neons are good and have a great affect on the right car and with the 2 lowered and some kind of skirt along the side would make the vision of ligth better and give more of a glow then staring stragth at the tube!
Also theres 2 good mounting points at the frint and back for neons but teh back one means you have to cut a bit of teh nappy off !
Not that i have done it on my car but i have done it on a silver 2 in billericay and it looks good and she's got blue neaons one 24" for front and back and 32" for each side skirt but she hasnt got it lowered nor have a kit and i think it looks a bit glarey !

You know, the whole Max Power culture baffles me (I feel I may be about to start something contentious here...).
Massive zorsts (look rediculous, makes the unpleasant sound of a massively amplified 100bhp 4 pot.), induction kits (or a bit of pipe with a K&N cone filter on the end that in most cases sucks in hot air from the engine bay negating any actual power gains. So again it's function is to make it noisy), dump valves (utterly pointless but hey, they ptchooow), insane body kits/wings (kev in his shed destroying what the manufacturer achived with very bright people/software and a wind tunnel), blue leds (what is that all about? For the life of me I haven't a clue) and fantastically expensive ice (usually worth more than the car, doubles it's wieght and is played to levels that will see them all deaf before 20).
WHHHHHHHHHHY?!
So no, in answer to you question, I think it will look wank.
Saying that, each to there own I suppose. Just my opinion, extreme though it may be.

Have you done any mods to your car or is it as manufacturers s:?: :?: s:?: I know some like to keep theirs totally standard, and others only do subtle mods.

Yep, and if you ever take a drive to Finland, better leave the neons to UK s8) 8) s8) Driving with them on results in some 500e fine and loss of your plates. The car obviously stays right there, unless you wanna risk driving without the plates and getting more fines. You get the plates back once you take your car to inspection without the neons. Sometimes I just gotta love the cops s:twisted:  s:twisted:
(in theory it's just as legal to have them even if they are off, but obviously there's practically no chance to get pulled over if they aren't on)
Quote from: "juansolo"Mine's standard.

I agree; I'm only looking to replace it with a twin and upgrade the ICE in the near future.
N.b. I'm not adding neons I was just finding out what peoples opions are on them. It looks as though the majority don't like them. Just been watching to much 2F&2F:wink:
Sad or Cool?
Sad as Sad can be (IMHO!).
Leave it!
With Andy and Solo on this one. I have "expressed" my opinion on this topic before a number of times and I have to say, I just do not get it. Not one bit. Ok, there is maybe a call for a little individuality here and there, so I am not THAT averse to the odd mod here and there, but with the kits, the engine mods, lights, exhausts, blah blah blah, it just ends up making what is already a nice looking car in most cases have a really horrible and......well........downright amatuer look to it. I have yet to see a body kit on ANY car that doesn't look like it was fitted in a back street lock up by someone called Barry and his mate Wayne! Not one.
We are not car designers. None of us (unless I am mistaken and if I am, I am sorry), so WHY do we try and make our cars "individual"? Its like listening to that Levellers tune at some of the nightclubs I used to go to when I was a student back in the very early 90's. The tune is "One Way" and the main tag line in the tune was "There's only one way of life, and thats your own". At which point, this made me laugh cos there was 400 students, all dressed in baggy t-shirts, ripped jeans, army boots and dreadlocks all bouncing up and down. How much is that defeating the tune? Individuality? I am really not sure.....each car may look unique, but is it really? Thats why I laugh at the Rice Boys so much. See them on telly talking about their motors and asked why they do it. "Its cos its different innit? I like my car to be unique. individual". Err........look around you BrainBox! There are 30 cars that look just as crap as yours mate!!!
Sorry for the strong opinions on this one. But I just don't go for it. But each to their own and good luck to them. For what its worth, I think Slacey has got the mod thing spot on. Subtle, doesn't look THAT different from original spec and tasteful. THAT is how to mod a car........IF you are going to do it. But I don't think you should go toomuch further with it mate. You have the balance just right and a very nice looking motor it is too!
Phew. Can I get off my soapbox now please? I don't like being this high........

s:oops:  s:oops: I'm really pleased people like what I have done (there is nothing else planned, so don't worry!), I love the car and am even more proud of it when I get comments like yours John. I may have blown some of my cred with the momo gearknob, but what the hey... s:D :D s:D
Quote from: "John Woodward"We are not car designers. None of us (unless I am mistaken and if I am, I am sorry), so WHY do we try and make our cars "individual"?
Do you think that our car was designed to look as it does without compromise?
As far as I can see a brilliant example is the suspension and huge wheel arches. I'm pretty sure that the look there was a compromise on behalf of cost and comfort. <cynic> Probably just so they can sell us TTE springs for another wedge of cash. </cynic>
If it were all left to car designers then there'd be no excause for the Vauxhall Astra, or Rover 200 or new BMW 5 series or or or.
While I sort of agree with the Neon's, I'm not anti-mod as I feel that the designers of cars have been compromised by cost or manufacturing limits, and that an owner choosing to redress that balance a little is not a bad thing.
Granted there are many tacky mods, many badly fitted/made mods, and lots of daft mods, but as you say Slacey has done a fine job, and there are some other mods for our car that have a similar effect.
I'm with juansolo. Wank.
Wanker than a wank thing from wankland.
hmmm only kev's and shazza's have neon lights .. why not go the whole hog and get a nova whilst ure at it s;) ;) s;)
Darth, nice to have you chip in on the odd occasion. STILL making me giggle.....
I see where you are coming from Phil, I really do. But can honestly say that the cars that were compromised had looks as their no.1 selling point? Yeah, in todays market, this IS a big deal. But there are other priorities for those cars, such as comfort, practicality etc. There is the compromise and I have to say there are a lot of cars out there that look utterly shite, with no excue (have you SEEN the Hyundai Atoz? Ohmegawd......). But with the Rice Boys, this doesn't come into the equations. They take what is a relatively nice looking car and they detroy all relation to that motor. I have seen Pug 205's that look SCARILY like a brick! They cant tell me that they look good? There is a difference with a HIGE budget from a manufacturer making a compromise than with a Ricer making a hash of ANY car. Like I said and has YOU have said, redressing the balance on the the little "compromises" for some is not necessarily a bad thing (you are right on the gap between tyre and arch by the way. Far too big...), you can take it too far and it no longer becomes unique and original. It just looks shit! Hence my comments on Slacey's car. IF I was going to do it, then that is the way I would go too. And your welcome for the comments Slacey. Although I haven't seen the motor in the flash, I like the pictures and especially with the Anthracite wheels. Classy.
Besides, I am a sucker for a black car........ s:oops:  s:oops: s:lol:  s:lol:
Well each to their own and I like neons but I want to improve on that and I am currently designing an LED light system that is brighter than neon but also offers the uniform glow that neon gives. As for colours my system will be fully programmable and will give primary colours of red/green/blue or any colour with 4096 shades. I am moving to Menorca and have seen on Mallorca neons on cars and no they don't have corsa's and I think they look really cool. I have chrome 17" wheels and an e-tech spoiler as well which won't be to everyones liking but it is what I like. Take off flame proof suit and now retreat to bomb shelter. s8) 8) s8)
No need for the flame jacket Daz. Like I said, each to their own. Not bothered by that. But calling it individual is my problem and just going WAY over the top with what already looks a nice car for me is a problem. But like you said. Not everyones taste and in my mind the variety is a good thing. The world would be pretty boring without people we can flame........ s:wink:  s:wink: s:wink:  s:wink: s:lol:  s:lol: s:lol:  s:lol:

Our Silver MR2 has a purle neon in the back grille... tucked up above the grille actually so you just see the glow. It's fairly smart looking and certainly sets it out from others! Have just ordered two more to fit in the side vents... similar idea, you should just see them glowing! Will look mean when a corsa driver see's us approaching in his rear view mirror!
Actually, we've just sold a Corsa SRi in order to pay for all the mods on the roadster! Irony at its best.
Neons look good as long as you do something clever with them, and you can't see he strip... just the glow. Oh, and choose a colour other than blue!
In my experience, "Plasmaglow" are the best on the market. Go to w www.autostylin.co.uk (http://www.autostylin.co.uk) w for the range. Come in good range of colours. Also "Varad" are very good.
Go for LED kits under a car, harder wearing generally and much brighter. Easier and cheaper to replace if damaged too. £180 for full plasmaglow LED under car kit @ Autostylin.
