I recently blew one of my standard door speakers, it didn't take much and I was going to replace them anyway. I wanted to fit a sub which I removed from my old car. But it's a 12" and I can't be bothered with trying to find somewhere to fit it and losing any 'limited' space. I want so decent door speakers and if im going to have to take the door apart to fit them then I want to sound proof the doors.
Can anyone give me what I should be looking for when I buy the speakers ie max sizes to fit using the old speaker edges as spacers?
Which is the best cheapest sound deading material and where to get it from?
Is it best to get a single DIN kit from Toyota or the autoleads one? Which looks/does the better job??
I no this stuff has been posted a lot, but ive been trawling through loads of these now and people have different views on different areas. I would like to try and clear these up all in one. I have a 2001 model MR2R
Many Thanks
I reckon 16.5 cms is about the biggest standard, but I've made up spacers rather than modify OEM. Might get fractionally bigger but not worth the aggro unless somebody can directly confirm
Cheapest sound deadening is flashing from Wickes (or the like). More convential stuff is thicker, but much more expensive.
Suggest you get your single din kit and adapters fromMatt (http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14576). Any audio questions he'll help, does sound deadening as well.
Any idea what the depth is that i can go upto on the speakers before they start hitting the doors?
I just found this linked from spyderchat. Might be helpful...

You have 90mm between door card and window
