Right a lot of people have PM me about choice of speakers and as i promised i have tryed and tested these speakers over my 2 years of ICE installation.
1st part of speakers is that there are 2 types:
1) Components = 4 speakers 2 Mid range 2 tweeters (small speaker at top of door)
2) Coxials = 2 speaker ( 2mid range large speaker bottom of door behind grill)
The difference is that components give slightly better sound than coxials as the coxials have the tweeter in the speaker so the cone has to have a cut out creating less cone area = less air movement.
Speaker realy suit individuals so your music will dictate what sound is played through the speakers heres a giude:
Heavy metal = Lots of bass high end trebble (treb)
Pop = Mid range and treb
Indie = Everything
70's = Midrange only
errrr cant think of anything else s:wink:  s:wink: But you get what i mean so if you like heavy metal then you will have to have a speaker that will perform well in the sub 60HZ range. s8) 8) s8)
Right heres the speakers then COXAILS ONLY

A couple of questions
Can you recommend a few websites with decent prices?
Will all of these need the MDF template to fit correctly?
J
yeah these will need MDF to fit but ic an make spacers and send them in post for you as i have a master copy for teh shape.
Web sites are the best one i deal with are w www.Caraudiodirect.co.uk (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk) w and w www.unbeatablecaraudio.co.uk (http://www.unbeatablecaraudio.co.uk) w
These give good dilivery time and are very helpfull s:) :) s:)
Did the review of component speakers ever get finished? Would be very interested to read it.
no i dont think it ever did mate, and i dont think busters around anymore, but if your looking for some decent speakers that'll make the famed focals look like childrens toys, then go and find your local RAINBOW dealer, i heard a set of £400 focals next to the £120 Rainbows and there was no comparison, the focals were rubbish, but go find out for yourself, my local dealer is Torque Systems in Salfords, Surrey
try em, theyre excellent
I can vouch that focal speakers are brilliant! Not had them in my mr2, but had a set of components in my Puma! Highly recomended!
Dom
Rainbow are awesome speakers but rare as fook and hard to get hold of!!
Sorry to say that rainbow are better than focals imo.
Has any1 put 3ways in their '2? or made kickbuilds?

Quote from: "Skippy"Has any1 put 3ways in their '2? or made kickbuilds?
dont know about the 3 ways but if you mean speaker panels by kickbuilds then yes, i'm mid way thru installing a set of speakers in the cubby hole doors, origionally a panel i bought from Perry190 who had braced and bonded the 2 doors together and put a sub and 2 6x9's in them. Gonna be the dogs
mate can u email me a list of the models and prices u can get them for please:
e
skippy_3_16@hotmail.com e
thanks.
will do, i'm going back to torque systems on Thursday or you can try them direct at http://www.torquesystems.co.uk/
I had a quick look on the website but couldn't find the Rainbow speakers. Could you let me know the model so I can see if anywhere in Manchester stocks them.
Cheers.
I can't find any dealer online that stocks Rainbow speakers!!!!
Someone please suggest some.
Finally!
I have contacted Rainbow directly and they are sending me details of their components with prices.
Would anyone be interested in seeing this?

Yes please. s:) :) s:)
the 2's in for the TTE's tomorrow so i'll ask for there prices
Right then! are you sitting down?
The prices for 6.5" components start at £129 for the Dream line SLX or the X-line....
...to £6,500 for the Reference model!!!!!!!!
The SLX model is the 265 deluxe or a 265 deluxe installer (not sure of the difference) both have a max. capacity of 150 watt.
The W-line model is cCSX 265 or CFX 265 (not sure of the differences) both with max capacity of 120 watt
The nearest dealer to me is Auto Installs Ld, Blacknurn. They only listed the one dealer.
Hope this helps.
Put us down for a set of references please s:cry:  s:cry: s:wink:  s:wink:
sounds familliar, i got £139 for the 6" components but £7500 for the reference series quoted from torque systems. They said they had the only RHD F50 in last month having a set of the latter fitted, some people have way to much money s:? :? s:?
the company had to increase there in shop insurance to £2million to cope with the job s:? :? s:?
I jus bought these cant wait to hear the buggers s8) 8) s8)

I'm very interested in fitting some new speakers to replace the components in my Roadster - what would you recommend for £70-100 if I'm going to be listening to Voice / Indie ? Next up will be a new single DIN MP3/Tuner head unit ...
Ben.
go for teh focal components at £129 ish
Quote from: "markiii"go for the focal components at £129 ish
nnnnooooooooo dont do it, rainbow good s:D :D s:D , focal bad s:( :( s:(
sorry Mark, go listen to some and you'll see what i mean, plus the rainbows are cheaper s:wink:  s:wink: although i wouldn't go for the top of the range components, they cost £7000 s:shock:  s:shock:
rainbow 6.5" are cheaper?
my other concern with rainbow is tha they are metal tweeters, past experience is that these can be painfully bright,
is this still teh case with teh rainbows?

they were cheaper when i was last in the shop, but i do have to admit that they were a new product to them so its possible they did have them on a special introductory price, as for the metal tweeters, cat remember, will have to go check
Fit the head unit first, then the speakers. Speakers will never recover what the head unit did not output - and if you still have the standard head unit (unless it's the pre-03 Sony) it won't be putting much out at all.
Plus, I was surpirsed at the difference a better head unit made with the stock speakers - all because the amp in the head unit was better at keeping everything under control.

Hmm, any you'd particularly recommend from the Rainbow range then? I'm assuming they'd need to be 16.5cm components ...?

Hmm, interesting. The standard head unit in my 03 car is already driving me nuts - the layout of buttons etc is very poor.
I've been into my local Halfords to order a Rav4 fitting kit in preparation for finding a decent single DIN head unit.

fraid its been a little while since i've listened to some so i cant remember the range, but here's rainbows website

I've recently fitted Boston acoustics door speakers and they sound much better than the focals in my opinion
I was waiting for that! Yeah Boston's are absolutely awesome IMO.
better than the rainbows?
Have to say the Boston's are the best I've heard for clarity. BUT I haven't heard the Rainbow's. The Boston's have absolutely awesome top end and mids.
Quote from: "MRMike"I was waiting for that! Yeah Boston's are absolutely awesome IMO.
I knew you would be my top advisor s:wink:  s:wink: I'm surprised at how loud you can have the Bostons without any distortion or loss of quality. I'll be going deaf soon with the sub as well s:? :? s:?

I know I told you that! s:lol:  s:lol: You can have them at ear splitting volumes before they distort. Esp when you take the bass away from them. I'll have to have a listen to your set up at JAE Heath I bet it's completely awesome
These rainbows smash my old crystal 3 ways I used to have.
They are on par with Diamond M6's or some high end JL's ive listened to.
Rainbows should be the choice for a lot of bassheads now that they are easier to come by now.
And i have to agree with getting a head unit first then speakers then an amp to run the speakers.
