Post by: custardavenger on May 6, 2008, 17:42
Anyone know where to get hold of a replacement screen for the comander (back lit blue)?

Sorry, no. Did you try local electronic parts stores though?

Did yours fail or are you just trying to change the colour?

You know, red would be good for me too.

I'm wondering if just the backlight can be changed.

I want to do a perm install and bought one from ebay but it's massive compared to the original.

I was looking on this site
 m http://paulr33.skylinesaustralia.com/do ... fc-faq.htm (http://paulr33.skylinesaustralia.com/docs/powerfc-faq/powerfc-faq.htm) m

It's number 76 But when you go to the site they mention they are sold out. Haven't e-mailed them to see if they will be getting any in yet. just thought someone here might know.

That is a very slick install - I really need to do something with mine.. right now it's just floating about the cabin (much like the rest of the rats nest of wiring!)

you and me both, mine is just hiding under the ashtray.
I cant seem to find any where to put the blasted thing - and still be able to see it, grrr
Where Nic has his is ok but the missus would volley it every time she got in or out (not that her feet normally go anywhere near that location but if I put the commander there then BLAM! everytime - instant arguement starter)
Where Rob has his would always be in my way when I'm driving

Aaron (anyone?) if you come up with anymore neat solutions please post up and give me help

If i had a spare commander i'd be tempted by the chop it in half and other coloured displays brigade. Mine may be a bit wobbly on the move, but it is useable and relatively out of the way.

A (slim) female friend has been in & out of the car without interference (just waiting for the comments to come flooding in now Russ)

Thats sort of what i'm trying to do. I am a little worried about messing with it but have a datalogit on order so if i break it it won't matter too much

For customisation, what about one of these (http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=20962&category_id=690&manufacturer_id=0&tid=artigo) with a small screen, fold out keyboard, etc?

Then load it and run datalogit through it?

I put mine where the four switches are. Just used a generic mobile phone holder for it, so I can also grab the commander if I need to. Most of the time I just use it there.

I never used the coin holder or the passenger window lock switch and the door lock/unlock got disabled with the alarm install, so they were just taking up space. And I don't really need to change the gauge illumination all the time. That switch is still usable behind the commander anyway.

I thought I had pics somewhere, but can't seem to find them now..

Would love to but untill i have a play with the datalogit etc I won't know how much I need to play with the settings. Got a lot of other spends before I go that far. MORE POWER!!!!

Had a look this moring and that does look ok provided I can relocate the switches but I dont think the commander will get there the way its currently installed (down the centre console).

Tem, I'm guessing you ran the cable down the door sill ?

If you look on that site I posted it shows you how to make an extension cable if that helps

I guess you can relocate the switches, but do you really need them? The passenger window switch has to be on the wire, or it won't work. Or just short the two pins from the harness, like I did, if you don't ever use that anyway. Then you have the gauge dimmer and lock/unlock, which can be left behind the commander, unless you really need them all the time.

You can relocate them to the one blank next to it, it's the same size. Anywhere else and you need to extend the wiring.

I run the cable behind the dash through the removed switch location, so it doesn't hang around. And yes, through the door sill after that.

You can also buy them, if you need to. I have one between the Datalogit and PFC. Got it from Nengun:

Ok Update time.

The screen has arived. It looks very close to the original. Hopefully my friend Lee will bring his scope over this weekend and we will try and work out the pin out for the original screen and then connect it up.

Look on the back for one of the following codes:
T6963C
SED1330

They're the most common graphical LCD controller chips and if the screens use one of those then the pin-out is very likely to be exactly the same. They certainly look like compatible screens.

There is very little info on the commamnder screen. My mate has told me he's searched the numbers that there are on it and also rung Apexi (USA and Japan) and got no where. I have all the info from the new screen. Will try and post a photo when Putfile sorts itself out.

Just to re use an old thread

Does anyone know if the numbers on the back of Comanders are their part number? If so what is the part number for the Roadster one?

The reason I ask is I have a Mazda RX7 one and I want to make sure I have it in the right case before I sell it
