Title: Top recommended Radio/CD/DVD Unit?
Post by: Anonymous on May 12, 2008, 20:29
Hi folks,

I was wondering if you could drop me some recommendations for the in-car audio systems you use or have used, or seen/heard be used that are compatible with the MR2.

My extended warranty doesn't cover my intermittant stock audio unit and i'm not prepared to send it off for a month to get it repaired when I could quite easily purchase one for a little more cash and have music the very same day.

Also, recommendations for Subs/Bass and Tweeters are welcome too!

Cheers.

zero,  it obviously depends on what you want it to do, and how much you are willing to pay.

that said,

i got an alpine HU which hooks up my ipod and i have full control over it from the HU. sounds the canine danglies. about 165 on ebay (new- bnib)

if i were a little more flush i would get an amp too, but my hearing isnt that bad yet.

edit: just spotted the second part of your question, they are all compatible, but you will need an ISO adaptor and also a single din conversion kit available at lots of places, but i recommend our very own matt. very cheap and good service too.  the ISO adaptor lets you plug in a standard stereo to the toyota wiring loom, and the single din changes the double spaced hole where your current HU is into a single stereo and a nice little shelf for your cigs, shades, deck of cards etc

I quite like the gadgets of this model clicky (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchCmd?storeId=10001&catalogId=10151&state=c0%3Di%253A1%253B258%253B-_2c%252C-_25%252C-_22%252C-_31%252C-_2Y%253Bpioneer%253B%253Apioneer%253B1%252C1%253B%252B0%26q%3D10%26a0%3Diphrase%2Bbundle%2Btaxonomy%252F%252Fv%253A0%26i%3Dsitemap%2Bid%26k0.0%3Dpioneer%26g%3Diphrase%2BWCSAttr_0f52cfde05390196cc64de9f7e856e1c63f1dda4%26qt%3D1210622859%26qid%3Dq48b4WnZiJy1h%26tq%3D1%26vid%3DvuDgUxNeJx2q1%26ioe%3DUTF-8%26qtid%3Dq48b4WnZiJy1h%26s1%3Dsitemap%2Bid%252F%252F1%26v0%3Dpioneer%26rid%3DrkqeBJm6fCfaT%26s0%3Diphrase%2Brelevance%252F%252F0%26t%3D0%26m0%3Diphrase%2Bbundle%2Bid%26mcmode%3Dtest&action=refine&drilldown=t%7C%7C%3Assl%7C%7Ciphrase+bundle+taxonomy%7C%7Ct%7C%7CIn+Car+Technology%7C%7CCar+Audio%7C%7CIn+Dash+DVD+Players)

But i'm seriously not liking the price.  Ultimately, i'm after a unit that will play recorded CDs/DVDs (homegrown  s;) ;) s;) ) and also have the flexibility to hook up to an iPod and give top quality sound.

Being a bit of an audiophile, I love my music, and always go for the best gear  where possible for the best treble and bass combinations.
