Title: Bye Bye MX5 hello MR2
Post by: Anonymous on January 24, 2004, 11:47
Hi,

Decided to part with my 02 MX5 in favour of an MR2, although the 5 is a great car I just prefer the drive of the MR2.

Is it me or do MR2 seem to hold there value better than 5's anyway I have the choice of a 01 Y Blue with 28K on clock std car at 11995 which means minimal change over cost includes 1yr extra  Toyota warranty.

Or a Silver 03 with 4K on the clock for 13995, this would really stretch on the old pocket for change over.

So looking for a little advice, Is the 03 good enough to warrant the extra as it would hurt my bank manager.

Any comments welcome,

Thanks

To be honest (I could be wrong and I'm sure someone will point it out if so) the differences between the '01 and the '03 are not a big big deal.  Things that I would like for my '01 can be bought anyway.  Front strut brace etc...

I think the only thing would be the six speed box, but then I'm happy with my five.

Does the '03 have longer warranty?

Also the suspension setup differences are debateable but the changes had to have been made for a reason.

Small things like front fog lights etc but that's all cosmetic, end of day go for one with betterspec - or warranty, if both the same colour lol.

Personally i'd go for the '03 but i am biased becuase i have an '03 and i can't thinkof anything wrong with the older model.

Just my 2p's worth   s8) 8) s8)

Hi,

They are same spec the 03 has a year extra warranty left than the other, the 01 is metalic blue, which I must admit I prefer to silver.

So its just down to if I spend the extra few thousand on the 03 or minimal on the 01.

Must admit I think im tending towards the 01, since 28K as I understand it is nothing for a Toyota. Plus it will have had its 30K service and the dealer will change the alloys under warranty.

hmmm,

call me pessemistic however.

The minor tweeks and I agree they are have made the 03 a much better car.

and 28k is just about right for engine boom boom time, so if you buy it I'd get that extended warranty, or force them to inspect and show you the pre-cats before you pay.

Mmmm lol can't think why you would say that ...........

To be honest its only the 03 part that attracts me, I'm not a fan of silver cars, just personal taste. That and I could do other things with the extra 2.5 K.

I have had my 01 "Y" reg since new, and .... touch wood.. apart from routine servicing i have just had to relace the rear tyres at 13000 miles...  so i would say the 01 !!

Personally, IMHO there's not that much of a difference in drive between the two (take them both out and see for yourself?), so it's going to be mostly down to the cosmetic changes between the models.

I'd go for the '03: they look better.   s:wink:  s:wink:   Plus, with only 4k on the clock you get to decide the car's future i.e. how hard you drive it, what gets replaced when etc.

Still, you won't go far wrong with either.

Thanks,

Ive decided to go for a 3rd option, a Late O2 pre-face lift with 6K on the clock.

Looks good and drives even better.

Just have to wait until the end of the week now.
