Busy wiring up footwell lights today and noticed something odd about the interior light circuit.
I have installed an LED in the unit and have the clear Mitsubishi lens in the post. Whilst I was tracing the wiring circuits I noticed that switching the light unit from "doors open" to "permanently on" caused the LED to increase in intensity. Initially I thought it was my eyes but repeat testing confirmed that there appears to be something causing a power drop in the "doors open" circuit compared to the "permanently on" circuit.
Anyone else noticed this? Don't know enough about the science to know why it should be the case. Nothing wrong with the car that I could trace. Perhaps one of Mr T's queer ideas again. Perhaps he was saving battery power or something.
The permanent circuit is a direct connection to the body, whrereas the doors circuit goes through a diode and a few feet of wire. Overall it probably reduces the voltage at the light by 0.7 to 1.0V, enough to make a difference to the brightness
