Title: standard audio
Post by: jonfy on November 22, 2008, 19:08
The unit fitted to my car is a split unit type,i.e separate CD player and head unit . Is this standard on a 2001 model as other cars seem to have a Sony double din unit fitted ?

the standard fit is a double din modle.  either toyota's own (commonly known as fisher price) or the sony model.

if you have seperate cd and radio unit, i'd suggest its been replaced.

Yes you right the standard unit is very poor, i'm looking for a decent head unit at the moment.Has to be good quality and have bluetooth, we will see what Santa brings or maybe the credit crunch will get me a bargain !! Any suggestions over which head unit ?

I am an on call engineer and i sometimes use my own car to get to a job, hence bluetooth for the phone (i work for the police so it would look bad if i got pinched for talking on a  mobile !!)

I was looking at the Alpine units , audio quality is very good for the money.I'm more concerned with how it sounds than looks

One of the best bluetooth units I have come across is the portable Parrot unit. I take mine from my everyday car to the 2 and its just so convenient and works really well too. Then you can have the head unit of your choice without worrying about that issue.

thanks, something to think about however a new O2 sensor is first on the budget, the dealer is being an ARSE over replacing it.
