Title: Roadster Battery Why !!
Post by: Peter Wright on December 2, 2008, 16:04
Just had my 5th battery in 9 years of ownership, this time bought a 'trickle charger' with it, hope that resolves it once and for all
Any one know why they should be so unreliable ?

Maybe your alternator is not charging it properly - like mine until i swapped it out?

Mine still has the original battery, that's eight years old now. No problems with it so far. Perhaps there is something wrong with yours that's killing your batteries.

Not quite 8 years, but 4 1/2, and still going strong.

Had that with my civic. Had 4 batteries and 3 different alternators (only paid for 1) over 2 years and it never fixed it. Removed pretty much everything electrical that wasn't standard in case it was that but the battery still kept running out, no garages managed to fix it. Ended up magically stopping after the 4th battery.

Hi

My battery on a 56 MR2 with 8k has just died.  It's going in for a warranty replacement on Tuesday.  I blame the cold weather coupled with lack of use in its' first 18 months (before I bought the car).  Batteries should last 3 to five years,,,,just look at the warranties offerred with after market batteries.

Hi Peter,
I think you must have something gobblying up the wiggly amps.  My 2004 is still on the original battery and providing I run it around for a good one hour, at least once a week, it stays up and ready.
Next run is due tomorrow when a thick layer of the white stuff is forecast for these parts.  I have never had to use a charger.
Best Wishes,  S'man.

I think mines still the original. I have now purchased a 1.5W solar panel from Maplin and placed it on the rear shelf held in place by a few velcros, cost of the panel was £9-99 not sure how effective they are but I would estimate over a week I will get a good few  amp/hours minimum enough to just trickle into the battery for few as well hehehe other than the cost of the panel.
