Title: Routing cable from front to back of car
Post by: Anonymous on December 12, 2008, 18:28
I am trying to route a cable from the front of the car to the battery. Has anyone done this or know where to route it through?

obvious question but what do you need to power?

I am trying to power a hid kit and because its bi-xenon it needs to be connected to the battery. I know alot of members dont approve of these kits but I just need help getting the cable from under the bonnet into the cabin and I think I have to take out the storage bins to route it from the cabin to the battery.

there is a main bus power feed already up front, whats the current draw of your hids?

The feed from the 100A ALT fuse comes to RB3 which is mounted behind the dashboard. None of the fuses in RB3 are big enough to have a 30A fuse hung off them. The biggest is DEF (rear screen heater) at 25A. So you'd have to connect your splice in upstream of RB3 where its only protected by the 100A fuse. Even so a 30A load is a lot to add to a circuit that is already fused at 100A. It'll probably work and you probably won't have any problems, probably.  s:wink:  s:wink:

You might be better wiring direct to the battery, once you've got all the plastic trim off it isn't too hard, with the exception of getting throught the firewall seal grommit which is a real pain.

Would going under the car be an option as that seems the easiest?

If you wire direct to the battery please remember to put a fuse as soon as you can after the battery connection. Other than that I would run cable in mechanical protection (Flexible condiut etc) straight up the middle of the car with all the other stuff that goes that way. Thats what I'll be doing with my charge cooler pump.

Nice to meet you Rob...got the internet working, setting in router got changed somehow!

My chargecooler pump is into the nearside front relay box R/B No4. Not quite sure where it is actually wired to, I could look but it was Aaron did that bit of wiring. Maybe he knows ... just like that   s:wink:  s:wink:

Easiest way I found was to take out the centre console (only 4 screws).
Take out the rear storage bins (again only a coupla screws and 'poppers').
Far corner behind passenger side is the route through to the engine - you can see where the wiring loom goes through.
All the cables can then easily be routed and hidden from battery to behind dash.

Cheers Roger. Good to meet you too and thanks for the look under your car

Will have a look into that when I start the install.
