Title: Red Car, Black Hardtop - Paint it????
Post by: Anonymous on February 8, 2004, 17:52
This is my first post, but I should start by thanking everyone who replied to Leon's thread "Hardtop Fixing Guide" as that finally made my mind up to go out & find one!

I picked a black one up yesterday & would welcome your opinions on whether I should get it painted or not   s:? :? s:?

Unfortunately I can't get a picture on line but you can imagine what it looks like!!

At the mids karting meet, we got to see DimWit's red car black hardtop combo.  He's thinking of repainting it, but to be honest I thought it looked pretty good.

I'd second that...
Saw his Red with Black hard top again today and it looks better each time i see it. Is different but looks spot on!

I think black on red would look ok too. You can always get it painted in the summer when your not using it i guess.

Lucky you aint got a blue car with a yellow roof or it could look like this!

*shudder!*

I fetched the blue for him on my car, it looked interesting.

So we thought we'd try it teh otherway, just incase any colourblind people wondered if it would look good or not.

Markii, they are headed up as '03 vents, they haven't changed since 51 plate have they? would they definately fit??
Title:
Post by: markiii on February 8, 2004, 19:32
03 vents will fit pre-03 cars and vice versa if you really wanted too.

many including myself have already done this.

Well if you do get it painted, get something creative like a Japanese rising sun motif  so you can stand out for half the year and then back to the softtop  s:wink:  s:wink:

JMHO, but you might wanna consider painting the windshield frame black, if you're using a black hardtop. I did some Photoshopping with the idea and I liked it...

Should go pretty well with the black softtop as well and it didn't look like it would look weird when you're topless either. Can't seem to find the pics I made, would've posted them...

Well, silver hardtop fitted tonight on chilli red 2.
Thought I might just put up with colour until summer and re-spray top then.

But it looks great!  s:o :o s:o

Might live with it... (picture tomorrow).

Anybody think silver/red is weird or embarrassing???

I have finally got round to sorting my website! Won't publish the address 'cos it's still under construction.  s:roll:  s:roll:

I enclose a photo of my red car with black hardtop, still thinking of painting in the summer.

That looks surprisingly good especially with black leather seats.

IMHO take the money you would have spent on the re-spray and buy some other mods to enhance the driving experience. They will last all year round as opposed to the HT which I presume you will take off come the warmer weather.

Been out for first real trip with silver hardtop fitted. It's been a conversation piece ("have you got silver car at home with red top?" etc).

Larger pics to convert the doubters:

The black hardtop on the red motor looks fine so I would not bother spending out on a respray.  s:lol:  s:lol:

The silver looks ok but I don't think I would keep it like that forever more.  s:wink:  s:wink:
