Having just improted a MR-S I am having problems getting it through the SVA test. This is due to the emissions are 3 times over the limit. The car is running a Turbo conversion which i belive is a power engineering one looking at the pics but cannot be sure. Is there anyway of getting the emissions down so that it will pass?

Has it had all the cats removed? (likely I reckon)
The only real way to get the emissions down would be to install at least the main cat, this would be the easier of the two.
Is there any other way because I dont want cats. And the people doing the work said that adding a cat would not help.
Whats that chip that martin uses on his turbo... wouldnt that be able to be programmed to help with this? Maybe have 1 map for MOT stuff and 1 map for normal use? s:wink: :wink: s:wink: s:wink: :wink: s:wink:
I was always going to Uni-Chip it. But i want it on the road before having to do that. But it may look as if it needs doing now.
The car MUST have a piggie-back ECU or complete replacement ECU in order to get around fueling issues when running any boost.
Basically you need to re-program the ECU to run a very conservative fuel map to pass the emissions. What happens to the car after you leave the test center is up to you s:twisted: :twisted: s:twisted:
This theory (IIRC) has been proven by Hedley @ Millway whilst working on mph's car. (Correct me if I'm wrong Martin s:) :) s:) )
Just had some additional thoughts......
What part of the emissions are you failing? Can you post the figures that they are getting and the required figs
Have the injectors been changed for anything larger - that was where we started on mph's car, but went back to stock when we couldn't get the fuelling stable (5th injector added as infill)
I am not too sure about the figures but I can find them out on Monday. The test centre seemed to be worried about the amount of HC's maybe thats the one thats the worst. As for the injectors I am not sure if they have been changed or not.
How well does the car idle and run? If it has got bigger injectors and no ECU to trim the duty it will be putting loads of fuel in at the same duty as std.This will also make the car idle rough.
You really should check if any ECU has already been added, find out if it is a PE turbo aswell(it has blue hoses with "power" on them).There is no reason it should be running rich otherwise, as no extra fuel will be added by a std ecu for a standing still(no boost) emmisions test.
Not sure what the emissions test for SVA involves - I have a suspicion it's not the same as the MOT
Don't think they're as strict as an MOT. If i recall correct on an MOT, emissions do matter, but also if a car was originally intended to have a CAT then to pass it must have one on, even if the emmisions are low enough.... but i'll assume it's dependent on the station and the tester being a complete p**ck. s:roll: :roll: s:roll:
Without essential information, it's impossible to give any decent advice.
(in order of importance):
- What ECU is being used?
- Is the main CAT still present?
- What injectors are being used?
- What configuration are the two O2 sensors placed?

Well it's definately a PE turbo, but that's as far as we can help for now.

Got a phone call today and they have sent the injectors away to be looked at.
Do you know what they're going to do? Flow test them?
Anyway, i will have some stock injectors by this weekend you could borrow if they aren't stock you had, and need some to get a pass.
The model number is on the side of them and anyway, you've only got to look at the injector holes to be able to see if whether they're standard or not..
I havent got a clue why they have sent the injectors away. And would a Uni-Chip solve my problems or not?
Without more information, it's impossible to tell. However, the probablity is likely that it should be able to do the trick.
Thats the thing. With the car being down in Bristol I can only go off what they say.
If it's running, I could be persuaded to review/diagnose/fix it - it's about an hour each way from me. PM me for details.
Right there are 2 ways around this from what I can see. The expensive one.
1) Take the car to SVA UK LTD in Southampton. They guarrantee to pass your car for a flat fee of £450. I took the monocraft down on 17's and no lights. They swapped the wheels to 15's and wired up and aligned my lights for the test!
2) Bring your car to mine and I can attach the main cat instead of the downpipe or disconnect the turbo manifold and attach a standard precat one. This is going to cost you for a re-test £75 or even new test at £180, on top of a small donation s:wink: :wink: s:wink:
Well I have just got off the phone with them again and Number 1 piston is very noisy and the plug keeps oiling up. They have by-passed the turbo but the noise is still there. So it may look like a new engine job s:? :? s:? Anyone got any ideas where i can can an engine from then if i do that i can rebuild the old engine with forged pistons and things.

Your excepting that your engine is gone from hardly any info . You can alter your fuel if you get a piggy back ECU see my posts elsewhere.
If your sure that a engine swap is what you need then we can all help but a doner is what you need to source.
Be wary because hearing 1 cylinder being noisy is very difficult.Damn my noisy timing belt tensioner sounds like no1 cylinder exploding on tick over.
And how the hell have they bypassed the turbo? It involves removing the exhaust manifold and replacing it with a STD one. And capping the oil return pipe from the sump?

Disconnecting the actuator arm pretty much does the trick.
I think it may need a new engine since one of the plugs keeps oiling up. s:? :? s:?
