firstly ill start with i have read every relating post in this section, yes ive looked through all 24 pages and ive come to the conclusion that the information differs.
my local toyota, and it seems many others cant find item '2' on their database, some people are saying its the dealer being lazy and others are saying that this item only ships from sony as its part of the original HU s:? :? s:? .
can someone clarify on this as i want the install to look as neat as possible, or has anyone got a spare i can buy s:bowdown: :bowdown: s:bowdown: ?
will this item just clip into place or does it have to be bodged as its part of the original HU?
1)) 55521 -16030 : Tray / Storage slot
2)) 55423 - 17040 : Surrounding trim
3)) 86221 -52050 : Left hand spacer
4)) 86221 - 52060 : Right hand spacer
5)) 86211 - 17050 : Left hand mounting bracket
5)) 86212 - 17050 : Right hand mounting bracket
ive tried the 'autoleads kit (car is a 2000 import so had no stereo standard), i don't know if i was given a duff one but nothing lines up! the rear of the 'AL' kit bends inwards between the top of the 2 upright bars (i have taken the trim off) making it impossible to get the new HU in s:? :? s:?
from what i've read, even if i could get the auto leads kit to fit i still need the surround?
please can you help!

Try asking your Mr T for part 55423A - Panel, Radio Tuner Finish.
If he can find the ashtray on the parts diagram, then it's just to the left and down a bit (see the image on http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_2003_TOYOTA_MR2_ZZW30R-AKFQHW_5501.2.html)
Usually they're a bit slow in the parts department. If yours is a pre-facelift car, they find it quite difficult to look up a part on the facelift diagram, which this is!

there are two different radio surrounds
the one for teh 03 (the one you want) and the one that came around teh OEM Sony unit on the pre03 cars
the Sony one is shaped to match tehstereo and as a result looks naf if used with an aftermarket unit. It has however almost impossible to get as Sony claim its a toyota part and Toyota claim its a Sony part
