Title: Stuck CD
Post by: Anonymous on August 14, 2009, 15:38
Hi Guys

My first post to this site so plz be gentle....

I have the 2001 Roadster which I love to bits and it has the stock Stero with the tape deck.
I played a CDR which I put a glossy label on, which was fine, it played it good as gold. When the time came to eject it it just whirrs a few times, eventually saying 'reset'. I think it's because the label on the top is too glossy for the machine to push the CD out that it's just not ejecting.

The question is has anyone else had this happen, and what was the solution? I don't want to have to take the whole thing to pieces to get it out, but I will if I have to. Could do with some advice on that too I guess. Meanwhile I use the tape casette adaptor with my walkman, which works well. It just site in the ash-tray.

I am wondering if a hair-dryer through the slot might help, as it has been more than a little damp lately...

Cheers
Kev

Is there a little pin hole thing like you get on CD ROM drives?

Probably have to get the stereo out of the car and look at opening the case and manualy winding it out.

if you're not bothered about the state of the cd itself, you can get pharmaceutical tweezers, 'clamp' them round the centre hole and pull gently outwards (then furiously start yanking when nothing happens).

I said YANKING

I'm sure that when I had the battery off at one point, when I reconnected it my CD was inside the unit and everytime I selected CD, it whirred and through RESET.  If I remember correctely, I managed to get it out by having it set to radio, and then pressing eject...

Edit:

This was my actual problem -

just be aware that if you start sticking metal things into it you may get an electric shock. it has been known to happen before, plus i would be careul sticking anything hard or sharp into that slot cos there are a lot of delicate bits of electrical black magic in there and they dont like being poked. you could perhaps try a stirrer from a mcdonalds latte as a softer and non conductive probe!

Yeah be careful poking places you cant see especially when they don't want to be poked.  s:lol:  s:lol:

Not sure I want to replace it right now. It isn't that bad a stereo...apart from this I haven't had a problem with it.
Tweezers at the ready....

to get a cassettte out of a car stereo I used to use 2 credit cards. Poking one in above and 1 in bellow and pinching them together and pulling the tape out. Im not sure what you could use for a cd but something im sure.

Well the tweezers did the job! Thanks for the brainstorming!

 Avoid those shiny labels guys....!
