Post by: Anonymous on August 18, 2009, 22:48
Hi there pick up my first MR2 on Friday can`t wait. Was wondering about having another alarm system fitted. Are the factory fitted ones much good?

Well, once you set it off accidently the first time, you'll realise its quieter than a sleeping fieldmouse.

May be a good idea to have a tracker fitted if your worried about security.

The alarm siren was usually located under the spare wheel (which is in its own canvas cover, under the 'bin' lid under the bonnet) - so the siren is nicely sound-proofed from the outside.  I haven't done it, but the siren can be relocated, making it quite a bit louder - there is a guide on here somewhere.  Other than the noise level, it seems a decent alarm to me.

Welcome to the site and enjoy your new toy!

Cheers,
Stu

Hi,

You can get an upgrade by the Italian company Meta, it uses the original alarm fob and includes a new alarm in the rear offside wheel also covers micro for the cabin.

Oh, and it's very LOUD!!

Cost about £250!!
